CB confirmed to troll everyone by releasing the Seraph six months before the other Stingrays.

I'm okay with it though.

Unless they rework the profile, absolutely nothing.

I'm converting mine to Hussar wings if at all possible.

This would be amazing, but it would also deny CB the chance to re-use an existing sculpt so it won't happen.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if CB announced it at GenCon, since they've been talking about having a big surprise to reveal there. But yeah, it won't be actually out for quite a while beyond that - just look at N3's schedule last year.

Yeah, an announcment this year at GenCon that it will be out at next year's GenCon maybe. I think they are wary of giving dates that far out, though, so maybe just an announcement that they are actively working on it.

Yup, I used to be attached to a dragoon regiment and you see some great stuff from history collected about in work. It's actually kinda nice to see MO reflect that sort of flair, rather than the practical style of other stuff like some of the NCA stuff, I really dig the coats on the things like Hexas/Aquila for games like this 'cause it just looks great.

I don't know for sure, but the logical extension would be an armor unit.

e: A quick glance at wikipedia suggest that mechanized infantry sometimes gets the dragoon label.

Is that technically right? I thought it was mechanized infantry. Armor should mean cavalry where you fight from inside the vehicle, mostly, not deploy out of it.

That article reads like light armor in a recon role. No idea how much infantry is attached.

QGD was formed from 1st KGD and (had to check second bit) Queen's Reg of Horse mate.

The word itself:

quote:

The word dragoon originally meant mounted infantry, who were trained in horse riding as well as infantry fighting skills. However, usage altered over time and during the 18th century, dragoons evolved into conventional light cavalry units and personnel.
QGD itself is a line cavalry reg and under ARMY2020 will re-role as light cav. Currently it uses AFVs as force recce.

Speaking of learning the ropes, what's the best way to make use of cheap HI like the Terracotta Soldiers? Cheap HI-heavy lists seem like a cool thing because Terracottas are cool but they're not good enough to Rambo and not cheap enough to cheerlead and have no fancy frills.

I can guess they're actually pretty good for something I'm just not good enough to know what.

I've only been playing casually for 9 months or so, but they seem like they would be brutal for laying down Suppressive Fire. AutoMedKit + HMG on your Lt. for one SWC seems pretty good too. To compare with something in my faction, they're priced a little bit more than Neoterra Bolts, but come with more armor and two wounds. Rambo + Cheerleaders isn't the only way to play the game. You could max out on those guys AVA and still have enough points left over to have a second combat group with a 60-70 point Rambo and a significant number of cheerleaders! 4-4 Kinematika FO's could be good too, since a successful dodge could move them way back into cover, increasing their survivability? Idk, that's a wild rear end guess.

I'm currently testing an NCA list where my most expensive unit is 32 points, unless you want to count the Bolts as a "unit" since I run them as a 5 man link team. I have 15 orders. There isn't a single Rambo, but there is a significant amount of threat coming at you from all directions. This means that even if you pop some of my units, there is still threat coming at you. If someone gets a few lucky dice roll on your HAC TAO, you're done. If someone pops one of your Terra-cotta's, you probably have a couple more, or maybe something completely different, in reserve.

Generally, after looking, I imagine something like a 5 Terra-Cotta + 3 Wu Ming + a doc + Engi would be irritating to fight against. (30*5+40*3+15*2, and probably some spare points. And there's probably some smarter way to build a similar list, but I don't play YJ.) Combi rifles would usually bounce off of you if you stayed in cover, and you could drop a bunch of Nimbus grenades to cover your advance.

I didn't realize that the term dragoon transitioned to mean light cavalry. Also, the picture of the dudes in a Coyote made me think there was a squad in the back of it.

The sun was in my eyes.

Also I think it's a little funny that the Queen got the Dragoons from the King. I guess it answers the question 'what do you get a woman who has everything'.

Yeah it's an evolution of the word over time for the most part. When I first signed on I found it really interesting so I sat down and read about the regiments closest to me. The British Army is full of these little historical footnotes and the like.

Worth mentioning though you do get a bunch of regiments in the army which don't use the historical names, such as Royal Tank Regiment (RTR). I think this is because they're more modern regiments without the historical context but bugger if I know!

Genghis Cohen
Jun 29, 2013
Hussars, Uhlans - Polish words for types of cavalry, both used in the 19th century for British light cavalry

Dragoons - used throughout Europe originally as a term for mounted infantry, and by the 19th century cavalry (both light and heavy)

Cuirassiers - any cavalry still wearing body armour by the time it was generally obsolete, most famously in Imperial France, although the British also had at least one regt which would fit the description

Modern British designations (not much idea for other European countries) have sort of lost the plot in terms of any light/heavy correlation. Britain moved all the Cav regts to armoured vehicles in the 1920s-30s and they have all transitioned through various types of vehicles and roles since then as doctrine and technology developed.

Fix, you are right in that the RTR dates from WW1 and was formed specifically to operate tanks while the cav were still trotting about. As far as I know the only regt in the Armoured Corps without a pre-modern name. Note for any non-Brits though, all those regiments have been amalgamated with others several times over the years. So the names often are smashed together from older names and each regt sort of claims the traditions of several 19th century regiments.

1) Who?
2) Gotcha. I served with some RTR gents on my last source and they were a god pair to give them credit, but I didn't ask them about their regiment naming over the other, it's fascinating stuff though.

I like it. Only thing limiting me would be not having a 3rd drone, guess I could proxy one of the ALEPH drones and give it a shot. Yeah the Pathfinder/Weibing equivalents for each faction are incredible pick ups as specialists because of their versatility, they're a pocket toolbox on a 6-4 chassis. The downside is they're fairly fragile and vulnerable to a few different attacking methods, but they're almost an auto include for every list I make across factions because of how good they are.

I tried my Seraph. We rolled River of Blood and Kill the Heroes in 20x20, so it was basically an annihilation mission. Unfortunately I forgot that Martial Arts grants stealth, so a Daofei Hacker absolutely ruined me. Immobilized my Magisters in ARO due to a deployable repeater dropped by a Guileng, made his armor saves and dodge rolls, and then possessed my TAG during his active turn. Said possessed TAG then shot all my immobilized Magisters in the back.

gently caress. If I'd remembered stealth, I could have blown away the repeater and skirmisher pretty easily and then kept my TAG too far back to hack.

Umbra hackers make fantastic objective grabbers and have secured me 3 wins alone by their actions. That table looks ok to me, as osiris as said, might be worth chucking down some small scale road barricades and cars to break up the central fire lanes but other than that the basics look fine!

Im new so take my advice as a grain of salt. The wide open roadway might be a problem. You can deploy doods on the roof and pretty much lock down the roadway.
