You know, I kinda miss the whimsical camera angles that Breaking Bad was full of. Like cameras stuck in the back of washing machines, in the bottom of beakers, all kinds of unexpected and directly-in-the-way places. This show is being a lot more conventional with its cinematography.

Why does Saul say Chuck got sick from seeing the news story when they get home? He was tased and exposed to electricity after the cops arrived and Saul knows this happened. Also the cafe Mike was in was the same one from Lydia's first scene!

Notice how he took off the space blanket he was desperate for and couldn't walk over to get, after Jimmy reassured him about doing legitimate work? The electromagnetic sensitivity stuff is a blanket hiding the underlying problems of their relationship.

Indeed it was. If you get TCM keep an eye out, it is a great movie. The best scene is an Orson Welles monologue that ends with:

You know what the fellow said – in Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace – and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.

I think it was that when Chuck is sure Jimmy is up to a con, it exacerbates his 'condition'. At the end of the scene when Jimmy takes him home and spends all that time convincing him he's legit and going into elder law, Chuck finally seems mollified, shrugs off his space blanket and goes 'coffee's not going to make itself', and seems all better.

Also, I thought the Jello scene and how he was making the rounds with the old folks was cute. Jimmy is such a schmoozer! :allears:

Even though I don't always enjoy how Gilligan plays with metaphors, I did like one aspect of it: The doctor just completely calling Saul out on his poo poo. What if Chuck, who he sometimes goes days without talking to, gets hurt or needs help? Or any other of the dozens of plausible scenarios.

Also, this Mike back story is going to be interesting. I remember the actor once said that he doesn't believe that Kylie's mother is his daughter, and the mother is never really shown for more than a few seconds in Breaking Bad.

EDIT: Just saw the preview. Yep, Mike has a son. gently caress that episode looks dark.

I'm pretty sure Jimmy's trying to ease Chuck into the (probably accurate) idea that his symptoms are triggered by stress rather than electromagnetism. The more stressed Chuck feels, whether because he believes he's being bombarded or because he sees Jimmy pulling schemes, the more pronounced his nocebo-induced sensation of pain becomes.

Well the broken leg thing doesn't really count, Walt had already given him the false address and he was always meant to 'sell out' Jesse, he just needed to put on a tiny show of resistance so Mike didn't get suspicious.

So I guess at least part of the upcoming episode will show how Mike and Saul become, not friends I guess, but associates at least. Who do you think Mike is going to call once those cops take him in? Good thing that card is still in his pocket :haw:

Oh good, I'm not crazy. I rewatched the movie the other day and couldn't tell if it really was the theme on this episode or just apophenia.

I highly recommend the film as well. Truly one of the best noirs of the 1940's.

Mostly. I think they're doing way more stuff with shadows here versus BB. Go back and watch Jimmy painting Kim's nails or any scene at Chuck's. It's a thematically lighter show, but with a much darker palette. The absence of indoor lighting in this show is at full-on willful suspension of disbelief levels, but you roll with it on account of it being gorgeous.

What I love about it is that there's a table full of figurines. My impression is that she's been going all over the house gathering them, then telling Jimmy the crazy way she wants to assign it in her will, then she goes to get another figure... the relief he feels when he gets paid in full is SO evident, I feel like if after his other BS appointments that day if he had sat there that whole time and gotten nothing he would have just broken.

He had to have been there a couple of hours too, if my guess is right (the podcast will probably confirm it), so he brought himself down to like $20-40 an hour, counting the time it will take him to write up the will and mail it or hand deliver it.

Very good episode, lots of good character stuff making up for a lack of crazy action, and probably the funniest episode so far. The figurines, Bison Dollars, sex toilet, Matlock suit, jello cup logo, all great.

I'm looking forward to more info on Mike, looks like we're finally going to find out why he left/was forced out of the force, and why he's leering at that woman (who I think is the mother of his granddaughter. The father of Mike's granddaughter was probably his son. I'm judging from one of the BB podcasts, where the actor who plays Mike said that he had decided that there's no way the woman he was meeting to pick up his granddaughter was his daughter, based on how the scene was written/played).

Also, story-wise, the ending was great. Flow-wise, it felt weird, like they wanted to cut it somewhere else, but had to cut it where they did. Am I alone in thinking that? Like there should have been another wider shot or something?
