I lived in Taupo most of my life, the place that whenever there was a big event (like "summer") the population tripled. I'm pretty sure I know what lovely tourist drivers are like.

Well hopefully the police crack down on tourists on our roads instead of speed limits this year.

Sure, but those huge tourist numbers in Taupo get watered down by the large population of awful kiwi drivers and compensated with relatively decent roading. Subtract 90% of the local population, narrow the lanes to about 1/3rd of North Island motorways and double the number of campervans - welcome to the West Coast.

Where I come from, we didn't even have roads! We had to ride horses to get to school each day! And then eat them!

We can all agree that students, particularly first years, are awful. They're like tourists except they hang around and continue to be awful for months at a time.

I'm cool with legalised weed but it shouldn't be something you can drive under the influence of or operate heavy machinery, etc. I don't even know how you would measure that.

Butt Wizard posted:I'm cool with legalised weed but it shouldn't be something you can drive under the influence of or operate heavy machinery, etc. Probably the way you measured alcohol intoxication before breathalysers. Alcohol being another mind-altering substance under the influence of which you can't drive or operate heavy machinery.

Butt Wizard posted:I'm cool with legalised weed but it shouldn't be something you can drive under the influence of or operate heavy machinery, etc. You could do some sort of empirical intoxication test (eg. walk in a line, follow something with your eyes) and give law enforcement the power to require you to take a blood test or provide a urine sample if they have enough evidence to suspect you are high while driving. A chemical sniffer would also be a possibility. But in reality a lot of people will find ways to get around these or it will be so sparingly enforced that it'll be as widespread as drunk driving.
