Some sort of virus, but they didn't specify beyond that. And it's not clear that they ever will.

It's worth noting that it picked up the most total viewers of the hour (though obviously that doesn't mean anything), and that The Good Wife didn't do that much better in the demo.

The TV By the Numbers article today pointed out that Intelligence premiered to a 2.4 in the same time slot last year, and that ended up getting cancelled. I know even CBS isn't immune to the gradual ratings decline, but they're not gonna carry a rookie 1.0 show. Plus The Good Wife may also be on its way out.

Right, I'm just curious if an actual TV show tried to justify them or something. Besides Fox and Friends.

As mentioned already, the central hero 'bends the rules to get things done' loose cannon, brutally bent copper on Chicago PD canonically tried to cold-bloodedly murder a fireman for some spurious reason. And that is apparently fine. American police dramas are incredibly morally hosed up and most Americans don't seem to notice because that's what they have been raised to expect.

Which goes hand in hand with a culture in your actual real life police that leads them to thinking that running their very own private Guantanamo Bay for forced confessions is a simply spiffing idea.

Intelligence was basically the CBS version of Jake 2.0 and Chuck played without comedy for old people which is why it failed.

TGW will probably get the Mentalist treatment instead of an outright cancellation, since it's been CBS's big critical/awards darling of its dramas, but yeah I'd expect it to wrap up next season. And if CBS is presumably junking Stalker (which at least managed a 1.5 for an episode or few), they're probably not gonna keep Battle Creek around if it's only swinging a 1.0.

Yep and it's still really bad. I'm guessing no one is even bothering to make a hate watching thread for it?

Not as hilariously bad as last season became and it's actually taking itself even more seriously than ever what with consequences to the main characters being cold blooded murderers themselves, just with lower body counts than the villains.

I guess in terms of American Police Procedural Chat, The Following is somewhat of an antidote to all the other cop shows where brutalization and torture and a general disrespect of human rights are the only way to get things done - as such measures always backfire on The Following.

Also The Following is really, really dark. Like it comes on after GOTHAM and while I can see everything in GOTHAM just fine, The Following makes me think I need to turn up the brightness on my TV twice as high just to see anything.

I used to watch a show years back called Third Watch. It was a procedural that had cops, medics, and firemen all in the same show. It was interesting because all it needed was lawyers and it could have dominated primetime.
