One must eat the shittiest of burgs before he can comprehend the depth, complexity and wonders of a good burg. Burger enlightenment does not come from seeking out the best burgs, but from seeking out all burgs, and from extended periods of burger deprivation (which is about two weeks at the most, we're not superhuman here).

Fries are utter garbage and i tried a patty melt once from them thar was one of the singular worst things ive ever eaten at a restaurant but i think it was probably an isolated event/

Steak and Shake is a good option if you want a McDonald's tier burg with table service (including table service prices). e. I recall their dining rooms generally being open for diner style hours so its a pretty good step up on dine-in drunk food over Denny's in that regard.

I'm going wild here but is a meatloaf sandwich technically a hamburger? Several posters have said that adding too much stuff to a burg makes it meatloaf but have we actually defined things here? Is it like the porn case where "you know it when you see it"?

Putting binder (egg and or bread/crumbs) into ground meat negates its eligibility as a burg. If you use other ingredients for the same purpose (cheese), that counts, it's not a burg at that point. This is an open and loving thread and I don't want to damper anyones experience but I feel like this lingering question needs an answer. Meatloaf is wonderful and an heirloom in today's society. But when you put that on a bun, it's a sandwich, not a burger. A burger is meat topped with things, not meat with things in it. Exceptions can be made for a pure meat patty formed around things, but that is a technicality.

That being said, my polish-american grandfather, who served in the Navy and lived through the depression made such burgers. His patties were made with ground beef, a large amount of crushed saltines, an egg yolk, and extremely finely diced onion. He would then proceed to grill the ever living gently caress out of them after they'd been rolled as thin as he could get them to still stick together, then serve them on buns with only ketchup. They were somehow delicious. Yet they were not burgs, proper.

I had a burger early last week that tasted like meatloaf; made me that much happier to have that Applebees jingoism burger on Sunday since I hadn't had a good burger in a long time. Side note - Applebees has blacklisted me from their wi-fi for using it to browse SA, which is cited by their Netnanny or whatever as having "violent content".

Meatloaf is a specialty in my family and I love it. I don't make it often because I end up eating the whole thing in a couple of sittings. That flavor triggers my appetite really strongly

All sorts of I guess New Age men posted:wordswordswords about pan frying a burger Oh for the love of Budda, where in the gently caress did your society fail y'all? You cook a fuckin' burger on a grill - over a fire - a real wood fire - with a beer in your hand - not a loving light beer either. You boys are dropping the ball on the whole primal meat eating experience. I'm kinda sad about this cuz it's clear you haven't begun to live yet. And IMHO, regarding bun talk, one must decide early on in his journey de la burg if the bun is an integral part of the burger, or just a part of the meat delivery system. I think it all pivots around that.

That is what had me wondering about the whole pretzel bun/brioche thing. You have to ask what the setting is, and what the occasion is. You bust out the brioche on the 4th of July for legit-grilled burgers and you're going to look suspect.
