Lucky bastard. Marissa is a loving ridiculous guitarist, isn't she?

The new album is a lot more accessible than their earlier stuff, but since you saw them live I imagine you're probably okay with just picking up Live at the Hideout as a good introduction to their rather sizable catalog. They play songs from every album, except Chalk Tape (which is really not their best). Then track down the albums with your favorite songs, noting that the live versions can be pretty different from the album versions.

A punk band called The Sidekicks released a really ambitious and wonderful album last month called Runners in the Nerved World. It actually sounds a lot like Everything All the Time/Cease to Begin era Band of Horses.

I would love to see them live but they aren't coming anywhere near Texas. Maybe they'll do a one off show not part of the tour, it's how I got to see Jenny Lewis. I'd be interested in seeing them partly just for their somewhat unique instrumentation. Their new album is currently my album of the year so far.

I think you will have a much easier time catching them in the US at some point in the future. This has been the first time in years that I remember them coming to Europe and, more specifically, somewhere even remotely nearby. They (understandibly) tour the states much more often, so give it a bit of time and I'm sure they will do another proper US tour.

That song and their previous album as a whole fall into the "good music but, not catchy" except for sonsick of course. That's one of my favorite songs of the past couple of years or so. Just my two cents, they'd be a fun band to see live I bet. Usually the ones that have a lot of good musicality are great live.

I like "Sonsick," but I prefer the versions with Rae (which, of course, isn't on the album.) "Bar" would be my favorite from their last album.

Have you heard "Jackrabbit" yet? I would describe it as extremely catchy. It might tickle your fancy.

Dumb question but it's one of the girls from Lucius on the track, right (not Rae Cassidy)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvHzV7ygaOA E: It's Charlene Kaye, actually. Apparently she replaced Rae on tour last year

I like the song fine; not as much as "Emily." The Kanye reference is cute.

Yep, Rae left in April last year. It was really jarring to have seen them with Rae last March and then Charlene in August. They're fantastic live, though, and the new songs sounded pretty good when I saw them perform a couple of weeks ago.

Both of these, but especially Blowtorch, sound dramatically worse than anything else in their catalogue... kind of a shame... I always hoped they'd explore "weirder" stuff but they've gone in the opposite direction.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/music/news/article.cfm?c_id=264&objectid=11408916

He writes quite literate narrative-based songs, that he describes as "long-form ballads". He's kind of difficult to pin down, but I first saw him opening for Okkervil River, where he performed, among other things, a cover of The Mountain Goats' "The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton", so if you like either of those bands, I can recommend him.

Big winners for me are Stranger Than Earth (that middle synth part is so good), Begin Again (really like the overall feel as a dark pop song), Dust Hymn (synths again sealing it for me), and Heartsigh (for being sufficiently weird with its effects).

I'm wondering how my standouts here compare to the favorites of Shrines. Amenamy was far and away my favorite followed by Obedear, Belispeak, Crawlersout, and Lofticries.

At any rate I wish they were coming closer to me on their tour, I saw them... maybe in 2013 and it was great if not short. WOuld love to see them again with more material.

My favorites on Shrines mimic yours, almost completely, I'd replace obedear with fineshrine, but only from a lyrical standpoint. Begin again is really perfect as a pop song. It just... works.

I drove to Lawrence from Omaha (also where GoRP lives) to see Wolf Parade on their last tour, so yeah, high five.

Like 10 years ago I think Lawrence got better shows than KC, Omaha or Lincoln. It's balanced out, though, thanks to more smaller venues.
