One episode was mostly for longer OAV's with fewer episodes though, Evangelion was on 13 VHS tapes with two episodes each.

I was too young in the 90s to even recognize anime. Pokemon was just another cartoon to me but I remember regular stores like Target and K-Mart carried a lot of the early Indigo League episodes like with Lt. Surge and Sabrina on VHS and I got a few of those. I don't even know how I watched things on VHS anymore. No dual audio tracks, no special feature selection, it was like caveman times.

From what I've read in the Megaten wiki, the second novel has a demon baby or some poo poo (Loki and the literature? teacher's child). The pregnant lady even goes batshit and becomes half demon and grows some scales and it's all very gross and crazy. Also, from the summaries and the OVA, the protagonist dude comes out as one hell of a jerk, because the teacher (Ohara) had no part in his early trauma of getting his poo poo kicked in for... rejecting a girl's advances? Is there some detail that the summaries miss or is the characterization really that bad?

Here buy this vhs of pokemon containing 3 episodes where Ash eats a lot of food! Who watches a show like that??

I will never forget that one MegaTen anime OVA that ended with the protagonist going Super Saiyan against Satan.

The protagonist is basically a sociopath that magically stops being a sociopath for no apparent reason. Eventually he gets put on trial and sentenced to a public hanging for murder and unleashing demonic hellspawn on the earth. I'm guessing the author is expecting the reader to sympathize with him by that point but he's so unlikable and it's such poor writing I doubt anyone really would.

Really the only thing I took away from the novels is Loki is a legacy douchebag for the franchise and Cerberus is more significant than I gave it credit for. Cerberus is basically one of the first demons the guy summons and if my memory's right, he's pretty much the guy's go to monster.

Unmature posted:Where the hell did you guys live? All I remember at Blockbuster as a kid were Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z VHS tapes. Blockbuster definitely had an animation section into the latter half of the '90s. It was stupid because their policy was to make anything unrated a Youth Restricted Viewing title (which was treated in their system like an R), so all anime was considered equally dangerous. Copies of Tenchi Muyo were stuffed away in the same corner as the rape monster movies.

I do remember having to go to the far away mall to get fansubbed DBZ tapes. This was way later though, they were only 15 bucks. It was cool to get a random three episode chunk from a saga that wouldn't air here for years and have no idea who any of the characters were.

My Blockbuster had anime, as well as other local places. One day when I was 11 or 12 I figured I'd see what it was all about. To my young mind it made sense to get a good value for my money so I checked running time and rented the longest one first. That happened to be Akira. So the best anime ever was my first. The rest was history and I made it my mission to rent everything everyone had. Nobody had any tentacle porn but I did run across more than a few soft porn and softcore romance anime, End of Summer and Mermaid Scar and I also got to see confusing poo poo like Dog Soldier, and Grave of the Fireflies. I still Akira, Tank Police, and Bubblegum Crisis from time to time. 80s anime is best anime.

Atlus updated their Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker website with some more information about the game. Seems like there's an easy mode option (no hard mode, sadly), the ability to skip cutscenes , and new BGMs by Shoji Meguro which probably means something to nerdier people.

Unmature posted:Where the hell did you guys live? All I remember at Blockbuster as a kid were Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z VHS tapes. All I had growing up was a family owned chain called Video Club. They were the first in town to get in on the VHS boom of the late 80s and rented out high end audio/video equipment. I'm pretty sure one of the owners was a basement nerd because the anime shelf was impressive as hell. Had fansubs, too. I saw my first anime from there, the 1989 City Hunter movie. Then I went down the deep end with Wicked City. Then I fell off the earth when I saw my first hentai (which I'm pretty sure didn't have a warning on the box). Can't remember the name but it was about two witches that needed to gently caress this guy to get a passing grade in witch school. I wonder how many basement anime nerds ma and pa rental places created. e: I rented the Sega CD from them. $20 for the weekend plus a $50 deposit so I could play Lunar. Ended up renting the Dreamcast as well.

Somehow they're still open in my town but I'm 100% positive they're fronts for illegal poo poo. I get a serious Black Books vibe too because the owners are all curmudgeonly and there's a 99% chance a used bookstore is next to them.

First impressions are that it's a little confusing, with certain things that you can do from the start not actually explained until later, the framerate reaches Vita Altier levels on some dungeons and when certain abilities in combat are used which sucks. You can scan your face to be animefied for your clan head that all of your decendants will share features from, which I think is funny/cool. You can choose to have your little weasel girl assistant do all the heavy lifting when it comes to planning out each month, I'm not sure if this is a bad thing to do or not but it makes the game alot less daunting at least so far. You can take pictures at locations in dungeons too for some reason. Here's my clan head and his two brothers chillin.
