If there's not meaningful information on the inside, he doesn't get a skill out of it. That's why the basics of European magic book was useless for him. It was totally about theory, there was nothing that would directly lend itself to a practical skill of some sort.

Yes_Cantaloupe posted:Man, this action arc is boring, when are they going to get to some training? This action arc will improve when our boy Jee-Han realizes he can contribute and kill off one of the four golems with the help of Gnome and Fire chick, then he'll pull off some awesome stunt and in the process find a new skill book which teaches him something he'll immediately start grinding. I wonder how long it'll be before Jee-Han can control one of those giant golems from the previous action arc without having to meld with it like the sorcerers did?

This was actually a great chapter. The witch gets some badass lines near the end with "That's the price of respect" and wolfguy erupting plant matter to become a tree. No fighting really, but enjoyable nonetheless.

The translator saying that its all really stiff language in korean would be better in something before you read it all than in the comments imo

She's probably one of the best characters in this series.

I guess the same thing that stops him from reading a Superman comic and coming away with Superstrength, Supertoughness, Superspeed, Flight, X-ray Vision, Laser Eyes, Freeze Breath etc. It would be pretty funny though, if he tried penning his own Compendium of God Tier Bullshit to see if he could trick the world into giving him freebie skills. But he can just invent skills anyway so whatever.

The books he learns from have instructions to do something in them. They're things people who don't magically absorb books into their brains would read to teach themselves how to do something. So in order to write a book he could absorb to learn a skill he'd have to already know how to teach the skill to others.

Honestly all these ideas sound really good but would gently caress him up royally. Look at all these super-powered dudes. They're here for what is basically a rare crafting ingredient. Imagine what they would do if they get their hands on a dude who can magick them out of the ether.

Wait, think of all the grinding we'd have to watch again . I do think that's a funny end to the story though. He dies heroicly, goes back to when he first got his powers. You can go dark and have him lose all his memories and be caught in a time loop, or go funny with him looking at the date, opening up a menu, finding a save option, and then pan out to his house with a big scream sound effect.

This reminds me of a character from a book who pursued dark knowledge to save his dead wife, and ended up instead cursed to live forever without her. He's lived for thousands of years covered by shadow, unable to sleep or die or lose his mind and hating the world for many reasons. Instead of that, Jee-Han is cursed to endure jokes about gaming systems and to never look at his goddamn options menu.

Hell for Jee-Han would be finally going on a date on with a girl, starting to really like her, and then when he tries to go in her house he's blocked by a big banner that tells him he needs to purchase that DLC before he can proceed.

She was fighting the un-living golem in the middle of an empty, lifeless urban environment. Her enemies had merged themselves with the golem so she couldn't drain them, and wolf-dude needed time and protection to turn into a tree and provide her with a power boost.
