Like everything else, the depiction of sexual violence being offensive or not comes down to context. The stupid getting felt up QTE in Tomb Raider was terrible because it was lazy, pointless, shock value bullshit. Just like most of the non-sexual ultraviolence in that game. The scene in question in Hotline Miami 2 is actually saying something, and isn't just there for it's own sake. Them putting in the option is a good thing, because it will let people who do have PTSD issues from that kind of thing play the game, but it's not something that should be wiped from all media. All that's going to do is make it some unspoken of taboo without showing any of the actual consequences of it.

Another thing about putting that scene behind a prompt is that it makes you actively want to watch that. It makes you complicit in watching a rape scene in a video game. I think it actually makes more of a statement that way and relates pretty strongly to the theme of the first game.

I hadn't thought about that, but yeah, you're right. That fits shockingly well, actually.

You get a bunch of cross-over gear for Payday 2 on Steam. I don't know if PS4 is in on it. I don't have Payday 2, but free stuff!

I haven't played PD2 since the map for Hotline Miami was release, didn't know they released more stuff for PD2.

I really don't want to watch that film due to its subtones. Don't loving cheat and make my animal brain freak out by using sounds I don't understand. Make me uncomfortable by showing me horrible poo poo.

The only thing Gaspar Noe's made that wasn't aggressively unpleasant are the opening titles to Enter The Void.

The thing I've always most admired about Hotline Miami is the way it puts you into a trance, one of the few games where absolutely every element sings in concert towards a single goal

So, uh, do you guys have any advice for "getting" the first game? I'm trying to play through it again but I'm getting so frustrated at my character's fragile nature - it's annoying me that I keep getting killed by off-screen gunfire and the like. I know it's kinda the point (the first time I aced a level with the music blaring and then found myself silently passing by all the maimed corpses on the way out, eesh...) but I'm finding it really difficult to separate "this is it's meant to be played, dufus" and "argh so much failure".

Don't plan, don't think. Move fast and be as violent as possible. You'll die a lot but the game expects that (and, really, is part of the story from the telecom place). I aced the game about a year ago and came back to it recently and I was dying over and over again. Eventually, though, it'll all just click.

edit: I use Tony if I really want to smash a level.

I'm replaying it to see how much I want to play the sequel (turns out, a lot) and just plowing through fuckers with melee weapons as quickly as possible gets the best result. Well, except when you miss. My restart count must be somewhere in the Meat Boy-ballpark at this point.

Its been a while so I forgot what button it was for sure, but you can look around the area so you have less chance of getting jumped. I think its Shift. The game rewards berserking it, like how the AI will miss more with guns if you're charging them. You can still take a stealthy guerrilla approach though, its what I always did.

A good way to train yourself is to use Zack and start going for A+ ranks. Zack gives you a longer combo window, so then it should be easier to get in the mindset that you need to move fast.

I've been playing it again recently. In the level with the woman, I couldn't actually pick her up because it wouldn't let me drop my gun. In another level, I finished off a guard, but then got stuck in a wall.

The original buggy version of HLM1 was developed in-house by Dennaton on Game Maker, and the later more robust version was rebuilt by Abstraction Games on Sonys PhyreEngine. HLM2 is built on the later so it should be okay, maybe :sweatdrop:

Transitioning from being down on the floor to standing is still kinda glitchy. I've had enemies pass through walls after getting up from being knocked down, and gone through a wall after doing an execution.
