The article says that he received a "seven-figure deal" for the book, but aren't senators capped at the amount of money they can make in outside business ventures? I remember reading it was something like up to 15% of their salary.

The RNC is setting up its Star Chamber to determine which debate moderators are sufficiently conservative.quote:A potentially tricky situation for the RNC will be evaluating which news outlets and personalities qualify as "conservative." But in a twist nobody could have seen coming, the conservative outlets are worried that partnering with the RNC will make them seem un-conservative. quote:Breitbart News Executive Chairman Steve Bannon, however, said he is not interested in participating. "We'd like to keep our independence," he said. Perhaps O'Reilly can moderate all of them and talk about various historical events he has personally witnessed via photography.

That's just fantastic. The RNC only wants conservative media to moderate their debates, but the conservative media doesn't want to lose the veneer of deniability that they're conservative.

I simply love the idea that Ted Cruz wants people to know the "crazy" and "stupid" tags on the GOP aren't true. This is the man who shut down the entire gov't because the president won't shutter his own signature achievement and then in the midst of the shutdown "forgot" what it was about without having a back up reason to talk about.

Mitt Romney posted:You mean like how they now have a 47% chance at controlling all 3 branches of government, removing the filibuster, and ramming through whatever they want for 2 years straight? They're still doing pretty great electorally, but you can draw a direct line from the House's troubles right now to the Tea Party. Can't get much ramming done when a significant part of your party doesn't know how legislating works and lives in pretend land where their majority is compromise proof (on top of compromise being a new word for "DEATHBLOW" among that set). Perfect is the enemy of good and deep red districts are the enemies of anything resembling good. I very much doubt they'll sniff the presidency barring some major weirdness, but this is America where major weirdness goes down weekly so who knows.

I don't see any reason to cheerlead _additional_ dynastic crooks. Ok, yeah, Hillary, her turn, lets have a coronation. Everybody hold their noses, won't right wing radio hate it etc. etc. She has stayed in politics has a record to run on/from, etc. But Gore? Dude is out of the game, and been very profitably trading on his name and connections ever since. He has no accomplishments to point to in the last decade that don't boil down to "I made my family a whole lot of money selling carbon indulgences, and remember 2000? 2000 was some bullshit" 2000 was a long drat time ago. I think that Obama's considerably scandal and money-scumbaggery free tenure is going to provide a hard thing to compare to when the next batch of DLC business democrats come nuzzling back up to the trough.
