As far as I can tell they are just not going to throw too many resources towards trying to win a by-election they had at best an outside chance of winning. Better leave it to Peters to upset and cause issues for national.

Especially since it splits the vote and causes probably the candidate they would feel least represents them to get in. I think most people in the thread understand MMP though.

I guess who represents them is so important to them that they vote for them anyway - sure, it won't deliver a certain outcome, but are you really surprised that hardcore Green voters won't vote for a Labour candidate?
