farottone posted:Horizon. For some reason I'm running into the 256 song bug with Horizon too. Though it seems to have installed them all initially, whenever the drive is reexamined (by reloading Horizon or through the Xbox itself), it only shows the first 256. Right now a workaround of installing through USBXTAF seemingly got me over the hump but we'll see. At this rate I'm tempted to just learn C3 CON Tools, getting this to work with the existing drive tools has been a tremendous headache. Edit: though the tracks from USBXTAF show, Horizon is refusing to install over 258 songs. It goes through the process and tells me they're installed and shows them, but any reexamination of the drive doesn't display them. They seem to have taken up more space... but don't actually work, like it's installed them to the wrong location, perhaps, or installed them incorrectly. That is analogous to what you'd have to do to go from Xbox to PSN. It is a wholly different seller for the purchase.

What you're suggesting with DLC is analogous to Apple and Google getting together to let you migrate app purchases between the App Store and Google Play. It's not a huge technical challenge, but it's in neither party's best interest to free you from the lock-in.

Let me reiterate: I'm not suggesting it's in HMX's best interest, I simply pointed out that it's not impossible to do or that it's not in the hands of Sony or Microsoft. As a developer, you check in app whether the logged in user has possession of the item. If they don't, you point the user to the paid section/button/whatever, if they do you point them directly to download/code to insert to get the free content/whatever.

Right, and who actually pays for that on the other content marketplace? Harmonix doesn't do their own distribution of in-game content, and all DLC has to come down as signed from the store, authenticated on your Microsoft or PSN store account. Harmonix doesn't have the ability to distribute via a channel that avoids that, so how exactly do these items get marked as purchased on the target platform? I mean you're saying "not impossible but not in their best interests" like there's a functional difference here.

Could they put out a PC version and say "If you want a platform that has all your purchase history across multiple consoles, here you go"? Of course they shouldn't, people would pirate the ever-living gently caress out of it.

Technically neither do iOs developers, you still need to go through iTunes anyway. Yes, actual content is then served from the developer's servers (or a proxy) but as it's been answered before the issue isn't certainly that of a few megabytes being transferred. And you don't even have to make the previously owned content free, you can choose to give discounts if you want, but again that would mean having setup a user identification system to begin with. Anyway, I've derailed the discussion enough, I just wanted to point out that it's something that is being done already. Yes, not in games probably but the Rock Band situation is pretty specific, I'm not sure how many other multiplatform games have users who ammassed hundreds if not thousands of dollars in purchases. And, again, even letting users port over their purchases is amazing.

Of the stuff I've authored for C3, here's what I think has a chance of being actually released: The Cardigans - "Lovefool" Earth, Wind & Fire - "September" Modest Mouse - "Dashboard" Modern songs that I think have a shot and I'd like to play: Bastille - "Pompeii" Big Data - "Dangerous" Capital Cities - "Safe and Sound" (might be a harder sell without keys) Milky Chance - "Stolen Dance" The Neighborhood - "Sweater Weather" However, if we get any Mumford & Sons or Safe and Sound-era Fun, I will do my best to produce *negative* downloads for those weeks.

So I've got the ion kit with the 360 controller and a Roland kit I've been using with the adapter thingy (also xbox). Any chance I'll be able to use one of those on the PS4 when Rock Band 4 comes out? Or will I probably have to wait until anyone comes up with an adapter?

I use Horizon and Party Buffalo and neither has ever corrupted anything, as long as you don't delete files from there (any XBox transfer tool will mess up things eventually when deleting). It can either be the stick itself or something else.

That way you're never using Party Buffalo (or any injection software) where the stuff actually lives and the risk of corruption is minimal. Why not just leave it on the 360 drive?
