Got 3 hours of sleep, woke up at the asscrack of dawn for jury duty. Severely overestimated how long it would take to get there, got the third degree when they ran my backpack through the xray machine and saw the glucose meter + lancets. Found out 2 hours later that of the 6 courts they needed juries for, only 2 actually went to trial. Got sent home at 10:30. Going to enjoy the rest of this day off. CharlesM posted:Maybe this question is for you, leica. Can't say for sure on that camera, but I've owned a camera that did use lasers for focusing in low light (Sony DSC-F717 - I'd still be using it for some stuff if it hadn't gone through two image sensors). It projected a laser grid and would use that to focus if it wasn't bright enough for it to focus normally; still the best low light autofocus I've ever used. If it's just projecting 2 beams, then that's likely just Hollywood being Hollywood. And it's very likely that camera is just a fiberglass prop anyway. cursedshitbox posted:I loving hated driving tour buses around vegas. I think I just killed my laptop. An old dell vostro 1400 I've had since 2007. Knocked over a beer, maybe a few drops got into it near the left speaker and esc key. Now the power and battery light flash for a few sec and it powers down Sad, it's been a buddy of mine for ages, had it for my old business, carried it around full of repair manual PDFs and a USB modem for internet on the road if I needed extra help. I think it had the dodgey onboard nvidia 8400 graphics so i knew it was going to die one day, but man did I like that keyboard so much. I'm not going to be able to watch topgear, roadkill, documentaries and poo poo and post so much anymore as my desktop is going to be in my kids room, so no more late at night shenanigans for me. Using my partners thinkpad right now and poo poo isn't where I expect them to be (arrow keys, del etc), not to mention it was running ubuntu, now I'm in the hell you can only experience with a windows laptop (everything slow, bloatware, and missing handy programs) Fo3 fucked around with this message at 19:48 on Mar 9, 2015 |

We are so far behind on maintenance and repairs that i am adding a second shift. We are already way over cap for the day shift and have had techs working outside in the rain. I also made a separate perfomance goal for my parts dude, he is a tech that i have more or less forced into a parts/writer position. i am testing out a performance bonus system, where you work towards a bonus equal to a weeks pay per month if you have 85% of your work day working an actual workorder. this includes if you punch in on a work order saying "shop cleaning" and "tool maintenance" or "admin". Basicly, it means that if they actually keep up with their paperwork they get a 25% increase. The problem for my parts guy is that he does not really work orders, and if he was to punch in on every order he prepared and ordered parts for he would spend half his time doing that. I also gave my apprentices the chance to work saturdays swapping tires. giving them a flat rate per axle. They tested this system this saturday and seem to have netted about 3x their normal hourly, they also swapped more tires per manhour then any of my techs had seen done. Good work boys Productivity! mariooncrack posted:Hey 88h88, I was wondering if you knew how to make one of the following : The wiring part of this is easy, that connector is just tip ring sleeve (TRS): Wire the grounds from both outputs to the sleeve, the right positive to the ring, and the left positive to the tip. The problem, like 88h88 mentioned, is the impedance. Looks like those headphones are 32 ohms, so it will depend on what loads the amp you use is rated for. Parallel some power resistors with your signals to drop the impedance, or series them with the load to raise it.

some texas redneck posted:Why not just buy a headphone amp instead of trying to repurpose a speaker amp? Seconding this. I recommend the O2 headphone amp (or the O2+ODAC if you need to run it from a PC). It is one of the very best headphone amps out there at any price, and it will last you a lifetime. It has super-low output impedance, which matters when you're using 32 ohm headphones. You want the output impedance to be less that 1/8th of your headphones' input impedance. Putting resistors across speaker terminals will yield high output impedance and can mess up the frequency response of your headphones. This is how cheapo gear implements headphone outputs, and why a lot of people recommend dedicated headphone amps (provided they're properly designed). I have an O2+ODAC, and it is both utterly free from noise and capable of delivering mountains of power to my power-hungry Beyerdynamic DT-880s. If you're looking for something a little cheaper, the Topping NX1 is also a good choice. KozmoNaut fucked around with this message at 20:07 on Mar 9, 2015 |

The other thing is the problematic onboard nvidia GPU, wouldn't want to spend money on something that may have a dying/faulty one. The i5 thinkpad I'm using now that I got for my partner 2-3 years ago was a bargain at $500, but I haven't been able to find a bargain laptop for quite some time with similar specs (was looking for my mother last year but didn't find anything as cheap or good) Fo3 fucked around with this message at 20:44 on Mar 9, 2015 |

I got a great deal a year or two ago on the Vaio I got for my partner because people weren't buying the pink ones, but it still stung a lot. But it can play Saints Row IV without issue. I consider that as good a benchmark as any. It's kind of also the reason I got the shits and bought an overpriced (for what they are) used Asus Transformer Infinity. My tablet's screen was broken, and my netbook is just generally hosed, so I went two for one. Clunkiest drat thing I've ever used. But the keyboard dock thing is the killer accessory for me so I just have to deal with the ANR dialogs and just general spacing out for a minute or two at a time. I have no drat idea why it does that. It also randomly opens apps while it's asleep somehow.

I discovered a 2 ft drop, even in a heavily padded backpack with a laptop sleeve, is enough to "break" the optical drive in a Toshiba laptop. By break, I mean it bent the poo poo out of the bracket, enough that it no longer made contact with the SATA ports. Nothing that a couple of minutes of work with pliers and a screwdriver couldn't fix, but it was a moment when I pulled it out of my backpack and saw the optical drive hanging out by 2 inches. Maybe I shouldn't take it everywhere with me.
