Kommando posted:MARCH BRISGOON AUSPOL MEET That's Anidav? It all makes sense now. Earlier this week someone asked if we'd actually stopped the boats or if there was proof they were still coming. Here's your answer: "smh posted:A small fleet of brightly coloured Vietnamese fishing boats based in Darwin are believed to be replacing the orange lifeboats used by the Customs and Border Protection department to tow back asylum seeker boats that make it to Australian waters. We spent 7.5 million on orange life boats last year, each one costs 200,000. That's 37.5 boats last year, roughly. So no, we haven't stopped the boats. The fact the government is seeking cheaper alternatives, and thus more dangerous alternatives, would indicate the boats continue to come.

Take your pick to be honest. Team Abbott have had some of the most shitful policy thought bubbles ever farted out. It's no surprise they can back pedal fast as they were never thought through to begin with from both a policy and political perspective.

Does the the new boat not negate the boat that was stopped? or do we need a concurrent 'boats started' tally? Can't we make the start boats in SA? Can we then stop the start boats, doubling the number of boats stopped? CATTASTIC fucked around with this message at 06:37 on Mar 10, 2015 |

Orkin Mang posted:kill urself! die!! genuinely snorted out loud when I read this. In other news is there any chance of scheduling the next Brisbane Goonmeet on a weekday night? I work Friday-Sunday nights usually and if I have it off I usually don't feel like going out anyway, but I'd love to come get food poisoning and make awkward jokes about stairs with you guys. If we're accommodating Cartoon and its on a weekend don't gently caress with that on my account, but just putting it out there now I've been posting long enough to feel comfortable meeting some of you in a public place, especially now that I've seen you all and know that I will be the most handsome and worst dressed person in the room

Graic Gabtar posted:The boats were stopped and then the passengers and crew were sent back. I thought that the point of stopping them wasn't to keep refugees out of Australia, but to make sure that they weren't risking their lives and drowning at sea because we care so much. Oh wait, it's ratbag ciarg.

Graic Gabtar posted:The boats were stopped and then the passengers and crew were sent back. Orkin Mang posted:kill urself! die!! No no, GG is correct, this is an argument of definitions. The majority here, and I dare say the chief humanitarian angle is to remove the need to put a boat to sea as "Stopped", if we had better communication and an established refugee procedure to resettle asylum seekers then the risk of life lost in leaky boats between indonesia and the Kimberly is diminished. However as long as there is injustice and violence in this world and Australia does not (generally) then boats will keep coming. Its pretty much impossible to stop. The opposition, current implementation and three word slogan of the last election appears to be framed in an interception angle meaning "Stopped". A treating the symptoms approach rather than a cure. This includes information of the task. I was aware of this but didnt really grasp that we're from different approaches until you said it just now. It makes sense now. So the LNP checked off "Stopped the boats" by intercepting the ones the navy could, and blocking information about the whole lot, and stuff those that dont agree with their definition. Australia's a pretty good place to live in because its not a war torn country with milita gunning down people in the street but its also pretty hosed that we lock people up in indefinite detention if they live in a country where that happens and they just happen to come here on a boat and I can hold these two thoughts in my head together at the same time because I don't run every single thing people on the internet post through some kind of IF x THEN y boolean filter, seeing as human communication doesn't strictly follow the laws of computer logic
