Guess who got the game to run finally. Apparently starting in fullscreen is a bad idea. But yeah, only two levels in (Fans and Detective's firsts) and... well, something just feels off so far. Like, this feels more like "kill everyone to survive" instead of "do as the weird voice says and murder". But so far? It's okay. I actually took the levels slowly and planning instead of "path for optimal murder". So yeah. I'm willing to say this game's like coming off a memorable high. It wasn't great, but it felt good going through said high. And this game's taking you through the fallout of said high, what lives you changed et cetera. I mean, it'd explain some backlash. People got high on the first game, and the sequel's not giving up that high people want. In other news, kudos to Dennation/Devolver for the Content option.

I thought dying over and over was the point of the game? Certainly a game wouldn't be a game if there was no personal mastery going on, but taking the scores and 'difficulty' seriously in this game is totally missing the point of these mechanics.

Holy poo poo, this loving thread. Half of the posts are "this is bullshit this game is terrible they ruined it gah it sucks so bad" and the other half is "lol scrub get good 360noscope420smokeweederrday." Meanwhile, I'm just over here, smoking my cigarette, drinking some Dr. Pepper, having beaten the game on Normal. Fantasizing about doing it on Hard, which hey maybe I can complete maybe I can't. The level editor will be pretty dope. This is one of the best games ever. I hope the level editor will have "Jacket" and "Biker" modes as well. Like you can't even ruin my mood right now with this game. And yet, I get where the haters are coming from. Holy poo poo it's really hard, really REALLY hard. But that's the point. Would you play this game if it were easy? Imagine how Hard mode is gonna be, but if you go all the way from Normal to the end and then play on Hard you'll be prepared to tackle the challenge, right? And for the people who are being dicks to the people who find the game tough, don't even. You know you had the same issues, everyone does playing for the first time. Calm down, you're getting all pissy over nothing, and anyone who knows me (eg 1/2 of this thread right now) knows I'm the king of getting pissy over nothing so when I tell you to calm your tits, you're probably waaaaaaay out of line. And you are, you're being dicks. Stop being dicks. Now everyone relax and listen to some M.O.O.N...

Really interested in seeing the S rank videos that will pop up. How exactly people manage to get through some of the later levels in one fluid motion is beyond me, but then again I am an old grampa with mummy hands. The thing is I dislike the vast majority of the game. As I've said before I feel the maps are too large, not just open, I mean too big so when you die you lose a lot of progress. So the emphasis is now on gun usage instead of the scrappy "Whatever is at hand" feel of the first. Now the argument I've heard is, "Well it's a sequel, you wouldn't want it to be a simple rehash." And that's true, I like the new enemies, I like the new characters and story but the core gameplay element just feels so vastly different from the first. To sum it up I can accept you have to play this game differently to the first, but it's really not for me. Also can any tech whizzes out there compare the map sizes? Like, Assault to the first floor of the Son's final level?

Getting S-ranks is surprisingly easy on the fan levels if you just play as Alex/Ash and tear through everything, especially on the levels where you start off playing as other fans, just because they were designed for the fans you're forced to use the first time through.

So I'm up to Act 3 and the best part so far has definitely been the swans. I was barely getting combos started, then this level rolls around and I'm up to double digits.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I can't seem to get Alex/Ash to work. The chainsaw swinger moves around, but the gun wielder just stays outside. Glitch maybe? Tony is loving satisfying though, holy poo poo.

I'm curious about hard mode changes- just not curious enough to play through this whole thing again. I think S ranks may actually be impossible on a couple of the normal mode levels- this may be why the achievement is only for A+. S is meant to signify, afaik, tripling the par score.

How exactly people manage to get through some of the later levels in one fluid motion is beyond me, but then again I am an old grampa with mummy hands. It feels like the levels were created with an optimal path in mind for S Ranks. Like the map designers had a cool run in mind, designed it around that run, and were able to nail that every time without trying too many different things. You see it a lot in stuff like Doom modding, where every weapon and enemy is carefully placed to do the run-through the creator wanted. I'm guessing high ranks reward map memorization more than anything, as I got S Ranks in the first game on levels I'd never seen through improvisation. Overall, there's not as much satisfaction. There are so many times where I was just firing off-screen (even while zooming) at windows and waiting for the screen to flash, which removed me from the visceral, face-to-face "Rainbow Six for Crazy People" strategy of the first game. It's just more dull. Not bad, necessarily, just less fun. I liked it overall, but I'm a little more open for community map projects, now. Broken Cog posted:I love difficult games, and I'm still annoyed by the level design. It's just awkward at times, not really difficult. In my experience it's less difficult and more annoying/frustrating. "Oh, you died because the shotgun enemy decided to walk in this direction instead of the other one, sorry." rather than challenging. In HLM1, the RNG was minimal, in comparison, and you rarely if ever had to really guess at things. It also feels less cohesive as a whole, with the disjointed storyline being confusing instead of intriguing.

The level editor trailer showed that in the enemy placement setup, among the different options, one was "random". That option just plain shouldn't have been in the game- or at a minimum it should bind the enemy to wander in a particular area.
