There's also several major cities pushing for a 20mph limit (which at least one police force has said it won't bother enforcing) and the government will give you five thousand pounds if you buy a hybrid (while the NHS chokes to death on budget cuts). Realising how stupid this is only takes a second's thought, but unfortunately voting doesn't, and so our courts and our chambers are filled with reactionary idiots voted for and championed by other reactionary idiots.

To give people an idea of how out of touch some of these people are, Natalie Bennett, current leader of the Green Party and a walking disaster in interviews spent £350 and four days traveling across Europe by train instead of a £90 flight which would have been far quicker. Whilst she is at least sticking to her principles the expectation that the every day person will follow suit is absurd. These are the same sort of people who tell me that I could take public transport to work. Yes I could, but because of where my work is located it would take at least three times longer each way, and even taking into account the hidden costs of motoring is almost twice as expensive per journey. In fact because I do a car share with 2 other colleagues of mine, it would essentially work out six times more expensive on a weekly basis. I'll stick with my car thanks.

Mooseykins posted:Hahaha, Green Party, does anyone even take them seriously? There has been a rather notable surge of late with the younger side of the population because the other populist protest party sold out all their principles and hosed over their core demographic to get into power, so they are well and truly hosed and most of their demographic has switched to the Greens. However, the young are also notoriously apathetic about actually going out and voting, so it will probably all come crashing down at the general election. The Greens have however been in control of Brighton for the last few years and the general news coming out of there seems to be that they are completely loving up the city at worst, or having their idealism and populist policies fall apart in the face of the reality of the situation at best.

From what I've seen they usually cite "safety" as their reasoning for this, despite motorways being the safest roads in the country already. Incidentally these are the same idiots who do 50mph on the motorway and insist they're being safer by doing so despite actually making the situation much more dangerous. Honestly, I see more idiocy and dangerous driving in one morning of my 5 minute 1.5 mile trip to meet up with my colleagues for my car share then I do in a week everywhere and anywhere else. The most common speed limit in my little morning trip? 20mph.
