Did anyone else have to appeal to Steam support to get them to switch your game version from basic to special edition? I opened a ticket two days ago and haven't heard a peep from them which seems weird.

We have one line from the interview, which is totally something a character actor would say in that sort of setting, and the actor saying he's had disturbing dreams. That's all we have. I have no clue where people are getting this intentional director action stuff from. its pretty obvious that that sequence is supposed to not be "in character" for the actor since A. the person whose interviewing him doesn't react well to it, and B. as you noticed, your interpretation leads to nothing making sense at all

Finally finished the game, I enjoyed the story even though it was rather disjointed, the gameplay really leaves a lot to be desired and feels like a considerable step backward from the original and this clearly all comes down to the level design. Not that it isn't worth the price of admission or anything, certainly an awesome little game.

Question, how exactly do I unlock the secret mission, Abyss? I went through Jake's third mission and didn't die on the top floor, got the alternate ending to that mission, snagged the floppy disk. Then when it has the scene with the Journalist I took the disk, got the achievement, and he mentioned it to the Detective on his way out. But then nothing; it cut straight through to the power plant chapter and now I have control of the Journalist again and nothing's changed. Do I just keep playing? Also, replaying the power plant chapter taught me two things: 1) Flamethrower is loving awesome 2) The Soldier's missions, if none of the others, are Dark Souls hard in that they seem impossible on first attempt but are hella easy on later ones when you know what to do. Ok, the flamethrower might have helped a bit, but I cleared it with like 4 deaths total so it's still mostly true.

Honestly if I had to sum up the game, the story owns, the soundtrack/graphics own, the gameplay hasn't had any bugs fixed from the original and some levels are kind of dull. I didn't expect to be going "my god, the story!" after I finished the game, but I actually quite liked it.

If during the detective's missions you check the trunk you'll often find some guys tied up in there, which leads me to think the way you discover it being a surprise that's sort of intended to show that even he can't remember it I guess he could just be doing it for the fame and glory of being the guy that 'solved' a serial killer, like a 1980's Dutch Wagenbach.

So I bit the bullet and played through the intro part for the cheevo. First off, what's the big loving hullabaloo. Saw it and literally no-sold it, seeing as all I saw was just some gross 8-bit asscrack and that was it. With that said, why's it in anyway besides that big ol' discussion early on. It's literally for a throwaway character or two. Secondly, how do I even get it: Just beat the tutorial without dying or doing exactly as it says or...?

What was throwing me off is the Shotgun is mounted on the wall right as you come up to the 2nd floor. If you don't pick it up it doesn't tell you about the lock on and the achievement doesn't pop.

I dunno what it is about this game, but I'm not enjoying it anywhere near as much as Hotline Miami. Maybe there's too much emphasis on guns and I kind of hate using guns. The best part about HLM1 was improvisation. In this game it seems like the best course of action is "grab a gun and kite enemies around corners". It's the least fun way to play this game but it's the only way to make any progress. The fact that enemy aggro seems relatively random with regards to distance/visibility/sound makes it extra frustrating. I think I'm gonna play this one once and then forget it exists. It's profoundly disappointing.

I'm replaying Hotline 1 just to see if my view of 2 is affected by rose tinted glasses, and two things I've noticed so far: 1. Hotline 1 is WAY more focused on melee which I think is interesting because the melee is a lot more unforgiving than in 2. Like, in 1 melee is basically a matter of who clicks first once you're in range, you or the enemy. In 2 they give you a split second to react before the enemy swings. I'm not going to say that's a bad point for either game, but it is different. 2. You can hold space over a dude you've knocked down to use them as a human shield in Hotline 1! I forgot you could do that and I don't think you can do it in 2, which sucks, especially because of 2's much higher focus on guns. CJacobs fucked around with this message at 03:06 on Mar 13, 2015 |

Play it like you would one of the Soldier maps when you're learning them: find cover, like that little room right where the starting stairs are. Pop out, alert a guard, pop back in. They chase you into a safe spot and you can swing a pipe at their face. Repeat as necessary; I think I got all but 4-5 of the enemies in that map dead in that same starting location just by being patient.

Pro tip for the nightclub level by the way: On the first stage there's a guy that stands stock-still beneath a set dressing bush in the top left corner of the map so if you magically get shot by a shotgun from nowhere, it's that guy.

I fail to recall a stage in the first game that bum-rushed you with eight dudes the second you stepped through the door. Nearly all of HM2's stages forced me to do things in an extremely specific way or die instantly. And then it introduced enemies immune to bullets. And then it introduced hosed-up lighting that made enemies hard to see. And throughout it all I couldn't take two steps without getting perforated by some eagle-eyed rear end hole behind three separate glass walls. Just awful. What was going through their heads? Why did they think anyone who played the first would find this entertaining, let alone newcomers to the series?
