This channel is pretty adorable. I'm still not sure if it's a farm or what, but it's by a lady with a whole bunch of cute critters. Some exotic ones too. Today marks the 2nd anniversary of the passing of a cat that meant the world to me, I'd like to talk about him a bit since I want to celebrate the life he had. This is a bit sad so feel free to ignore or scroll down to the next post if you wish. This is Kami, I met him at a shelter that I volunteered briefly at, after all examinations where done he was found to have FeLV, or feline leukemia, since we had some space we opted to isolate him for a bit and see if we could him adopted, after about 2 weeks most people that came to see him found him cute but didn't want to deal with a terminally ill animal, he was a few hours from the needle when I opted to adopt him myself, couldn't really let him die like that, there was always a huge part of me that felt guilty about all the other animals that couldn't get adopted, and this little guy was going to die regardless so I figured I might as well give him a chance to live out a life. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made, they say animals you rescue seem to know it, they act differently, friendlier, with Kami I can this was true, my family said he was my familiar since he was always several feet behind me regardless of where I was.  This is one of the first pics I took of him after he was officially mine, I didn't do anything, I just came in with the camera and he started posing and acting cute like that. I never intended to name him after a hindu god, it was supposed to be Cami but when they did all his vaccinations and such they wrote his name on the little plaque with a K, so Kami he stayed. Over time the disease starting started taking hold more and more, despite him being a young cat he spent a lot of time sleeping, didn't play as much, the worst aspect of FeLV is that it tends to attack the mouth pretty badly and as the years went by it went after his mouth pretty hardcore.  I fully acknowledge I became obsessed with him and saving him, I spent thousands of dollars I didn't have hoping to find something, anything, I just didn't wanna lose my cat, I had him on a treatment for several months, it was a series of injections to raise his defenses and help him live a better life, it worked for a bit, he was a bundle of energy once again but while those injections helped, the damage had been done and it couldn't really stop the things going on in his mouth, his saliva eventually became so acidic that he was missing hair on the corners of his mouth. So on March 13th I took him to the vet cause of how lethargic he was being, I didn't intend to put him to sleep, I honestly didn't want to, I had a gamut of excuses ready to go so I could hang to him a bit longer, after the vet examined and explained the condition of his mouth I asked him a simple question, is he in constant pain, when the vet replied yes my excuses crumbled, regardless of how much I loved him or how obsessed I had become I can't do that to an animal.  This was the very last picture of him before I took him to the vet. I miss him terribly still, I still keep his collar around, hell my pet in the MMO I play is named after him, healthy? Probably not, do I care? No I don't. He was a wonderful animal and I am glad I had him for as long as I did.

You honestly did something that a lot of people wouldn't (taking on the responsibility owning a terminally ill pet).

The program I volunteer with mostly does TNR (Trap -- Neuter -- Return) work for outdoor/stray/feral cats, but also provides medical care if, for example, stray kittens come in with a bad URI making it risky to operate on them right away. It also has a half dozen or so FeLV cats in the bathroom that has an outdoor area connected to the window, where they're safely away from other cats but in a place where humans can give them as much attention as we want as long as we wash our hands well afterwards. Even if they can't get adopted because of their illness, they're well loved and cared for. I should start trying to get more pictures of the cats, but the majority of my interaction with them is making sure they're waking up from anesthesia well and providing food and water so they can recover and go back to where they were trapped.

 You were/are a good owner. I posted a little over a month back when our cat (Cow) was diagnosed with cancer. Spoiled him as much as possible and did everything we could for a cat his age (18+) but we had to put him down yesterday. He was a really awesome cat, super chill, loved to be in big groups of people. Super snuggly. RIP buddy! We'll miss you forever!
