The only thrash album you need is Darkness Descends on loop 24/7.

I can't stand the production jobs on their last two albums because it makes everything sounds fake and plastic. If you really want to get into Abysmal Torment then you should really look into "Epoch of Methodic Carnage" and "Incised Wound Suicide": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egSONKHpjRc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWeZ78J6Awk Although their guitarist David Depasquale is insanely talented: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t6Koc3Gcbs A TURGID FATSO fucked around with this message at 00:25 on Mar 16, 2015 |

Their earlier stuff is good, though, thanks.

Can we include Skeletonwitch in the modern thrash discussion or are they too deathy? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kd0y6vFC3CA

Can't find any mention of thrash band Deathhammer from Norway in this thread. They've continued to concentrate and purify the term ultrametal upon every release, from their EP Forever Ripping Fast to their latest LP Evil Power. Fans of Darkthrone might have spotted their logo on the album cover of F.O.A.D. https://www.facebook.com/deathhammerofficial?fref=ts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snvsYKHqANE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiPQ6KFVc9Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkNP-XMTRGg

Also they rule and are a loving stellar live band. Really bummed that their tour with Goatwhore is happening in Europe and not here.

I meaaaan.... But yeah I wouldn't go so far as to say that vocals play no part in determining genre. It's just that having black/death metal vocals doesn't, on its own, make you a a black metal band.

My band Shepherd just finished our demo if anyone is interested. It's a bit of everything, including death metal, thrash, and melodic death metal. Spent the last few months recording 3 songs for a demo ourselves. I ended up doing everything myself but I think it came out decent. https://soundcloud.com/shepherd-band Bruce Kison posted:Exmortus owns I saw them play with Dark Tranquillity and Omnium Gatherum at the House of Blues last year. Very good musicianship and guitarwork. They're actually from Whittier in California, right around where I used to live. The singer in my band played some backyard shows with them.

Skeletonwitch are basically this decade's Children of Bodom: a crappy melodeath band for teenagers and 30 year olds who think harsh vocals are cool but need to wash heavy music down with Peptobismol. Since I'm talking about "black/thrash" washed in catchy melodies and hooky heavy metal, have some Manzer. There's a dirty song in there that would make Abigail proud. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFFSa-3eKlM

I've never listened to Children of Bodom so I don't really know what this means. I don't see why a band couldn't play power metal with harsh vocals though, if the music is entirely power metal but the vocalist growls then it would still be power metal.

muike posted:like i don't understand why there are four metal threads, though i could understand two The black metal thread is for people who don't think Skeletonwitch is black metal, the -core thread is mostly about hardcore, the doom thread is basically alt rock with Orange amps, Enslaved fans think they're that special to merit their own thread, and Devin Townsend fans don't listen to any other metal. Regular old metal thread fans are just the worst. Come to think of it, why don't we have a metal fan discussion thread and Skeletonwitchfan segragation so we can just post about off-brand Vektor worship here? https://blackfast.bandcamp.com/

The core thread seems to be more about breakdowns but other assessments are fair and do not go against my feelings. movement to worship vektor and embrace vektor worship is seconded.

I'd be down for a power metal thread, honestly. There's some discussion here and there on this thread but it'd be cool to have a thread specifically for insanely cheesy stuff. (Mostly because I'd totally do an OP for that ) Popular electronic music also has a bunch of threads and it's no big deal, just means more specialized discussion.
