The newspaper (?) you have to click is the Easter egg. This is some a meta joke where you're feigning being dense to imply I am, isn't it?

None of the newspapers are necessary to uncover the Whole Plot and it's pretty easy to put it together even without them, because they only show background information that supports just whatever conclusion you can draw from the game.

Save for possibly the actor chapters, it's pretty hard to accuse the game of being obtuse.

The cutscene shows San Fransiscio being nuked, an event that was alluded to in HM1. What more do you want?

The story is pretty straightforward. They left a lot of things open for interpretation, but the salient facts of what happened are all there.

It's presented in a weird manner but it's easy to piece together and the poster etc. makes perfect sense when you know what happened, and it's pretty cool how it 's all out in the open and hiding in plain sight.

I understood that Beard got Nuked[spoiler] without ever reading any Newspapers. I also understood that [spoiler]everybody else got nuked too. That was clear.

The only part that was confusing if you didn't pay attention is the timing and multiple nukes and stuff. I thought Beard was in Miami because I wasn't paying attention. But it was pretty obvious what was going on with the nuke killing everybody. He walks outside and somebody is praying.

Beard was also Soldier. The soldier that he pulled out of the power plant was probably Jacket and after the mission he opened a convenience store in San Francisco before being nuked.

I just want to say I don't think Richter and his mom were in Hawaii when they were nuked. The timestamp specifically says MIAMI, FLORIDA so I'm pretty sure they were on the beach there, for whatever reason, even though Richter talked about being in Hawaii.

Oh and in case anyone missed it, it turns out Beard in Hotline Miami 1 is actually a hallucination Jacket is having. Hence him being virtually all of the store clerks. He died in the San Francisco nuke and even mentions this cryptically "I haven't felt this way since San Francisco"

Yeah, so if he dies in the power plant explosion you get an Incident at Owl Creek Bridge scenario. Jacket's post-Trauma brain puts him in SF but he never really got there.

I don't think that's what happened. HM2 does make playing through Hotline Miami a second time worthwhile, if only because certain things now make more sense. I don't know if this was planned from the getgo, or if they just wrote around Hotline Miami but it's pretty cool.

All the scenes between Beard and Jacket are a lot more :smith: when you realize he's actually dead, and the reason why this guy is so helpful and nice is because he saved your rear end back in the War and that's how Jacket remembers him

In HL2 just before the big one hits on SF he's actually on the phone to Jacket from the sounds of the conversation, asking about the photo and if Jacket can send him a copy.

Probably explains why Jacket was so eager in Hotline Miami, and why he threw it away at the end. He was avenging his dead buddy

Finally got the time to finish this yesterday. I liked it, undecided on whether I like it more or less than 1. It's a "true" sequel, in the sense that it builds on, not only the story, but also the difficulty of the first game. Like others, I think the level design makes you move too slow. Even when you've got a pretty good grip of the level there are so many factors to acount for. And the randomness of enemies make it harder, since you have to constantly shift-look in all directions. One go you may throw a bat at an enemy in front of some windows and execute him on the ground, the next go someone wielding a shotgun decided to walk into the room with the windows, killing you as soon as you become visible to them. I also think they should have made bullets able to pass through enemies and enabled friendly fire (giving you the kill when they kill each other). I don't know if bullets can pass through enemies the instant they die, but it feels like they don't and it sucks when a melee enemy come running at you with a ranged enemy trailing behind them.

Also, I suck at this game just like the last one. It's pretty crazy seeing some of the videos being posted here.

I really don't like that this game did that. I feel like a big theme of the story in HM1 was that there was no reason for the violence, Jacket was killing because his phone told him to and it was an exploration into why and what that meant about him, whether he liked hurting people or whether he was just a complete sociopath just doing it because nothing made him feel anything so he might as well. Having it turn out that he's a trained soldier with a grudge against the russians for killin' his buddy just makes it into kind of a standard revenge thing. Biker's story was about getting to the bottom of it things and seeing the mystery, but Jacket's was about violence for violence's sake, and in the end of HM1 the "reason" behind the violence didn't really matter anyway. Now the reason is literally all the game is about, which is a strange direction to take.

I think having a level where you play as the commander and Assassinate the leaders Would have been REALLY good, both for the level design opportunities there (tons of bodyguards, maybe some civilians) and for how it would have filled-in the plot narrative a little, rather than leaving it heavily implied. Although I guess that's HM's style.

The whole point is nothing anyone does matters at all.

I'd actually say even with the extra information the violence remains pointless. Jacket is killing people because of a very loose connection to past trauma plus the phone calls. These Russians aren't the people who killed his friend, killing them won't change Russia's previous actions or prevent further killings, and these are Russians who chose to move to America anyways not ones who stayed in Russia as supporters of the war.

Yeah I kinda got that? :v: I also described the game as "nihilistic" like 20 times on the last page. I'm well aware. I'm just saying I think nihilism is dumb and 'nothing matters' is a really boring message. Like, haha, jokes on you, you thought this meant something! Nope.

HM1 meant more than HM2 and HM2 actually makes HM1 mean less in retrospect.

Still a good soundtrack though.
