If you've waded through all that poo poo and still managed to zero in on the odd South Islander comment then maybe you've got your sensitivity knob set a little too high. Besides, everyone knows Wellington is the greater cesspit.

On the other hand, Auckland has a huge amount of shoreline that is basically just undeveloped junk covered in garbage or completely blocked off by industrial land (like onehunga) so I don't know why everyone is having a cry about one specific piece of one of the two harbours. Full disclaimer: I've never been to the wharf you're talking about because there's no parking and I'd rather not put myself through the public transport experience again.

It seems like Auckland has lots of shoreline real estate that could be turned into something pretty and grand but everyone fixates on the harbour. I don't see a good outcome here because it's the only port for container ships in Auckland, and Auckland is a relatively big city which is growing rapidly and will presumably need more cargo capacity eventually.
