To be honest, I always thought Whitesnake making everything illusory and melty was actually Pucci using someone else's stand disc, then just using the power through Whitesnake or some poo poo. I know this isn't stated anywhere in the manga, but it's more or less how I justified it I think.

Lovers is pretty much just a crab pulling on nerves, so if you were to kill Dan really instantly, Lovers would probably just disappear.

They only took care of Lovers first so that Jotaro could get the pleasure of pummeling him.

Thought, so theres confusion over DIO having two stands in part three, the world and his NotPurpleHermit, but he has a hybrid body, ie dio's head and jonathon's body, so like wouldn't it be possible for two stands to be housed there? or is it possible that his NPH is just an extentive power of The World?

I think it's more likely Araki had intended the World to have the powers of all the stands but changed his mind. NotPurpleHermit just being Jonathan's stand works fine too.

Could a corpse have a stand? Not including Bruno. Jonathan's corpse probably developed a stand when Enya stabbed DIO with the arrow, and unless she stabbed his forehead or something, she'd have stabbed Jonathan's bod.

I always liked the theory that Hermit Purple was just the end-form of Hamon. Joseph and Jonathan were both Hamon users, Hamon is frequently linked with "Life" and "Nature" and Hermit Purple appears as a vine, conducts Hamon, etc. It's not bulletproof but it's serviceable.

I always liked the idea that The World was Jonathan's stand, and that it's actual power was to just have all the living Joestar's stand powers. Joseph's Hermit People, Jotaro's time stop, etc. You can handwave his lack of using Josuke's restore ability by just asking why would Dio want to ever fix anything he breaks?

This does remind me of a speculative post I read awhile back, though. Dio spent a lot of time at the bottom of the ocean, trapped in darkness, alone with his thoughts. When at last he emerges, he makes his headquarters in Egypt, a desert country, almost as though he had some lingering trauma from the event. Then you notice The World wears stylized diving gear.

The real answer is to not think about it too hard because Araki gives no gently caress about consistency and trying to think about any of this stuff too deeply is pointless.

I like thinking about it too hard. Though you're pretty much exactly right about Araki just making things up as he goes along. I remember one author's note he went on about being bothered by second-hand smoke, the number of characters in Jojo who smoke dropping off significantly thereafter. Even switched Hol Horse from cigarettes to a smoke-less pipe.
