Kelp Plankton posted:If that was any sort of preview of Buu era TFS Gohan then things are going to be pretty good later on Well we all know that Adult Gohan is considerably more disappointing and less broken inside than Future Gohan, so I dunno how similar they'll be. I also forgot that Gohan karate chops the back of Trunk's neck, just like Vegeta does to Goten. Is that like the Saiyan version of the Vulcan nerve pinch?

That seriously drove home how much I wish we had gotten Future Gohan instead of Jobber Gohan. It was maybe a little too serious at times, but it was still very enjoyable throughout. TFS does it again.

Future Gohan jobbed just as much as Adult Gohan. In fact his character exists for the narrative purpose of getting wrecked and spurring Future Trunks on through that.

Future Gohan jobbed out and died for good. Adult Gohan jobbed out, got a hope spot and then jobbed out. And then he got Yamcha'd.

Unless you're talking about his personality, in which case the Great Saiyaman route is definitely a Yamcha. I'm also hopeful for Adult/Buu era Gohan, since that voice acting for Gohan in the Trunks special was totally on point. It makes sense since they've been doing DBZA and other projects for years, but the TFS voice actors have gotten pretty good at this whole voice acting thing, go figure. I also just found out via their update that one of them provided a voice for the custom character in Xenoverse, which is all kids of cool. I like to see companies acknowledge fan works in that way, far too often they just get shut down. Attack on Titan abridged could have been glorious, for instance.

He's also higher on the beatdown list because of that, the fans will want to see it go down differently. I like that Frieza was killed so hard that even the Dragon can't bring him back with a single wish, all he can do is bring back the pieces which get glued together by Frieza Army Science (according to a manga leading up to the film's release). And it helps sell how much effort was needed to kill him in the first place, and it's a neat little wrinkle to me since I never figured the state of a person's body mattered when you're basically asking a Genie to magic them back into existence. They do bring back everyone on Earth from Space Dust during the Buu saga though, but maybe the Namek dragon is just that much better than the Earth dragon. The manga also explains why Frieza will be stronger, since he says he never trained a day in his life and just coasted on his own natural abilities, which is a far more sensible reason for him to get a huge power boost than I expected. So yeah, Revival of F should be pretty drat great, though now I also want to see Revival of C and Revival of B (nevermind that there have been like 1-2 revivals of B, do it right this time!)

Covok posted:Revival of B would be impossible, no? I mean Kid Buu is currently being born as Uub and Good Buu is Good. It's apart of Dragon Ball Onlines backstory, Gohan writes a book titled "Groundbreaking Science" about Ki manipulation, leading to a resurgence in Martial Arts and humanity in general learning to fly and such. Goten and Trunks open up a Ki-Infused Sword Dojo based on his findings. So yes, Gohan mapped out the science of Ki and pushed humanity to new heights for the DB Online backstory. Krilling founded the New Turtle School to teach students cooperative attacks and abilities (since his experiences had taught him that supporters were necessary even for the biggest fights) meanwhile Tenshinhan founded the New Crane School to teach overwhelmingly powerful Ki and Life draining techniques because things like the Spirit Bomb spoke to him as "You can kill anything by liberally applying enough force." Yamcha did nothing. Another thing I found interesting thinking about it, Dragon Ball is sort of lucky for the comments made to Toriyama as he wrote it, like during the first world Tournament, everyone went to Toriyama "So Goku's obviously winning right?" and eventually he just decided "No, Goku's going to lose because nobody is going to see him losing coming." and in the end it told a great story about there always being someone better, that the world was always vaster than you thought with more powerful foes. Which when you think about it, is something BoG used as its message to. Only instead of Roshi, Beerus delivered the message that as strong as Goku was, he still hadn't reached the summit and become the strongest in the universe.

That was well worth the wait. Crapbaskets, the Namek scream, delusional-Piccolo,and park ranger 17 were all beautiful references. I also love that TFS put more thought into trying to explain why half the world is blown to poo poo while everyone continues going about their business than the show itself did. I'm of two minds on the liberal use of Doctor Who music though. Oh, and the dedication to Monty Oum was nice to see

What was park ranger 17 a reference to?Covok posted:Revival of B would be impossible, no? I mean Kid Buu is currently being born as Uub and Good Buu is Good. I was thinking Revival of Brolly, but now I see given my context Buu is how most people would read it. He did have a revival/reincarnation after all, and all the other references I was making were to main series villains. At this point, I feel like the best possible DBZ movie is going to be one that crosses across the entire continuity of the DBZ anime and movies. We already have multiple-universe time travel verified as a thing, so conceivably Dr. Gero or some new villain could make a big time machine and gather up all the major villains to beat up the Z-fighters once and for all. Instead of your typical new fodder henchmen, now you have Majin Vegeta, Frieza, Cell, Buu, Brolly, Garlic Jr. (with immortality wish), I mean the list goes on. Hell, you can have multiple Friezas/Cells/etc. on the ship culled from different universes. You can make a new villain, or go all-in on multiverse theory and have them led by an Evil Goku who keeps a good Turles around in a cage. When all hope seems lost, you can have a different Future Trunks show up with his own big time machine and end up with slightly different versions of all our heroes saving the day. Plus you can do the old time-travel trope of them killing all the heroes at the start of the movie, and then say they're moving on to the next universe as Earth explodes behind them. It's absolutely fanservice of the highest caliber, to the point of being an exaggerated fanfic, but it'd be a hell of a crazy way to end things if they ever decide they're definitely for reals this time done with DBZ. I'd also be much more invested in a fight between Gotenks and Perfect Cell, for example, than Gotenks vs. random new dude. It seems like it would create more of a chaotic battlefield feel too, with opponents swapping more frequently rather than "Everyone pick your fodder to fight, then help me out on the main guy." While that idea's hard to do right, DBZ has had so many great villains that it's a shame they've never teamed up (aside from a brief "Hell is broken and here's Frieza for you to vaporize, Gohan" moment), and I think combining all the classic villains with a tweaked version of the standard DBZ fight formula would really be something special. This is all just me letting my childhood enthusiasm flow though, I'm just glad that DBZ movies are back to being a thing and that they're at least trying to make them fit in continuity, which hasn't historically been a huge priority. Edit: Oh, and my favorite moment from TFS Trunks was Trunks crying while he threw ineffectual punches at the Androids. So good. NowonSA fucked around with this message at 17:00 on Mar 19, 2015 |
