how heavy will the quilt be when it's done

e: like is this one of those quilts where when you're a little kid you pull it down onto yourself from the back of the couch and it feels heavy. or is this a light quilt, suitable for wearing to the derby on a muggy day.

the heaviness of a quilt is determined by the batting you use.

i use this stuff

it's super thin and soft

so my quilts are as lightweight as they can get. partly because i live in cali and don't understand the concept of quilts as a source of warmth, but mostly because thin quilts are cleaner looking and easier to assemble. most of the quilts i produce wind up as baby blankets or wall hangings so lightweight is the way to go.

this quilt will not be a hard working toss it on the lawn for a picnic and then into the wash on a regular basis quilt. i can show you a picture of one of my quilts that i treated like that and it is literally falling apart. oops

Thank you for the beautiful sig Machai!

The quilt will weigh 2,200 lbs when completed, but it should still be able to fly if my calculations are correct.

interesting stuff, and thanks for sharing. thank you to secdrone for the hard numbers. can't imagine how heavy a regular quilt is if a lightweight one is over a ton, but then again there's a lot i don't know about crafting.

Stormyish

I prefer my quilts to be so heavy that the jaws of life are required to remove your now pancake body from the quilted catastrophe

all signs point to the mini iron arriving today which is good because i decided it would be dangerous to cut the backing material until the quilt top is all assembled so i'm running out of productive things to do today
