I suppose no news is good news. The only negative remarks I received on my Sengoku Basara Let's Play were that my friend and I weren't loud enough, and I had since posted a link to a fixed version. I'll probably start a proper thread for it soon, but before then I suppose an appropriate title would be needed. The only ones I can think of at this moment are along the lines of "History is (Not) a Spoiler..." or using the classic Masamune line "Are You Ready Guys?..." I am also open to suggestions.

Hey, it's all the rage now that Steam has started to sell the things.

In order to try to get back to this, thread traffic is a funny little number. You get your humongous threads that get hundreds of threads without the OP even trying, whether by the games being massively popular (like the baseball threads) or the authors being subject to cult worship (Drakengard) but a lot of it has fairly little to do with the content. As long as it's competently done, it won't get flamed off the forum - and ironically, really bad threads get more traffic than good but obscure ones. My favorite example nowadays would be the Shadowgrounds LP, which has good editing and commentary and shows off a really fun game, but no one ever heard of the thing so it's almost done at fifty posts.
I guess what I'm saying in a really roundabout way is that you shouldn't be bothered by thread traffic at all - if just bumping it with updates doesn't do the trick then you at least won't feel obliged to finish should you burn out. Always look at the bright side of LP or some such shite.

Or you could do a porn game and watch the forum collapse around you, I guess.

So I was considering to do a video playthrough of Resonance. Since the game has nice music and voice acting, the plan is to do it as a (sparsely) subtitled LP with any game mechanics explanations and other stuff in the thread itself.

I've made a test video below, but I am primarily looking for feedback regarding subtitles because I was trying to play around with their position so that whoever is watching this doesn't have to divert their attention too far away from the "action" (e.g. to the bottom of the screen), so I'm interested to hear what people think in general about this approach.

Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lDoWL9MOYs

All feedback/suggestions are very welcome.

The thickness of the outline on the subtitles is probably right on the edge of good (a pixel thicker maybe imo, but it's good as is), and while the subtitle locations varying was annoying at one point in the video, I don't think I ever missed one, so you're probably good there too as long as you're careful. Subtitle sparsity was spot on as well. You're letting the game talk for itself when you don't have something to say, and that's a good habit. All in all, I'd say you're good to go.

I'd also suggest you add how the clock/time mechanic works into the OP if you haven't already (and whether you have a planned route or will be letting the thread vote), as that's the biggest question I came away from the video with.

Terminally ambivalent.
glad to see this thread is still loving garbage.

But hey, someone is trying to do a test post for Resonance! That game owns. I think you could easily do voice commentary if you wanted, since all the dialogue is voice acted you'd have clear points when you'd be able to talk. If that's not an option for you I'd say make the text a bit thicker, or bold it, it doesn't really "pop" the way you have it now.

Already rolling around ideas. Maybe I'll do something tonight or on the weekend.

lovely ironic posts can always go in the Imp Zone; making a new Sandcastle with zero-tolerance on shitposting is what I'm leaning toward as part of it, though. There's discussion and then there's just garbage posting.

Also the last LP discussion thingo was the Blasting Zone. And we all know how that went, hoo boy :staredog: I don't wanna deal with a mountain of reports from another stinker like that.

We will never be rid of these stars. But I hope they live forever.
I have a question about appropriateness (NOT probing for interest). My DnD role playing group recently set up a few cameras, lights, and an area mic after we realized that there was literally no reason we couldn't/shouldn't be live casting our 5th edition sessions.

I have a few Google Docs already set up with character info, event logs, and world building info that I could easily roll into an OP.

The question is: is a weekly livecast (on TwitchTV) of our 5th edition DnD the right fit for this forum? Or should I take it over to Traditional Games or something? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

You're never going to have a discussion thread work properly because everyone has different goals in here. Some folks just want to have a jokey thread for the end of their day and do not give a crap about higher ambitions, and they can be hysterically successful even if their appeal is restricted to this one internet subforum. Other folks do it out of a deep passion for the games they play and a desire to share that passion as best they can, which is a pretty high ambition. Others are just experimenting with various things in their free time and don't want to be held down by the baggage that the first two have. And everything in between. What makes sense for these groups is wildly and divergently different - and consequently there's no middle ground to be had on a lot of issues. Folks are going to do things differently, and in the mind-bogglingly large amount of data being uploaded to Youtube and imgur every day, the only thing a lot of folks are going to be able to agree on is that there's probably a little niche for everybody. That's carefully edited to dumped blind LPs, unedited face cams to carefully nurtured post-commentary tracks.

Now, it is salient to say to someone who is uploading a dumped blind LP that they are competing for a viewing niche that is extremely crowded and pretty small, so their approach is only appropriate if they're expecting a few dozen viewers at most. It is not salient to say they're terrible people and :frogout:, because they don't have the same goals in mind as you. The former is a pretty easy-to-verify fact if you compare subscriber counts and average view velocity over similar LPs/styles. The latter is an Opinion with a capital O and that's precisely the sort of thing SA tears apart for comedy value. I don't care which forum it's on, be it GBS, D&D, Games, FYAD, or here - if you have a strong opinion people are going to use it to get a laugh off of you, and that's fine. It's what we signed up for with our ten bux.

But if we're making the decision that we don't want that particular chum in the water in the Sandcastle, then you will need to ban discussion pretty much altogether, 'good' or 'not'.

Trad Games prob won't be interested. If you're interested in just pointing the camera and doing a livestream once a week, you could always post in the Streaming Thread. If you'd like to put in a bit of effort (possibly editing boring parts, at the very least doing more than a Twitch VoD linkdump) you could totally make a thread work. There have been D&D threads before, though nobody's ever done one with live cameras

Though, I'm not sure how interested people will be just jumping into your game, especially if there's a lot of lore and crap that would make sense if you were there from the first session
