Yeah I saw Dredd twice in the cinema and each time me and my friends almost had the screening to ourselves. Maybe five or so other people max. And this is in the UK, I can only assume things were worse in the US.

Could have been, it came out in one of the worse months in the year for a movie to be released in, US wise.

A moderately budgeted action movie is not going to make money in the summer dump month. I would have said roll the gamble and place the movie in August. It might have done better then.

There was next to no promotion for it, either. I'd been looking forward to Dredd for ages and was surprised to hear it was in theaters.

The theater where I lived at the time only had two showings a day, both after 7pm.

Plus the stills released look like poo poo. I was guilty of saying it looked bad as they were in some bare rear end room.

Such a great movie marred by poo poo promotion.

Yeah, the early promotion really didn't help -- the helmet looked goofy as hell in the first photos and I don't think anyone had any idea of how to sell the movie.

I think they just focused on NYC with the marketing in the US since there was signage everywhere.

Yeah they were all over the subway system. But it was the same poster over and over that I saw, the graffiti helmet. While cool looking, it didn't do a very good job of selling the movie.

Clearly.

This is exactly how I pictured the guy who made that Power Ranger short would look.

The Boys was overly long and didn't focus enough on the stuff that was sorta interesting (the Superman guy breaking because the fake him was killing folks so he just assumes he's blacking out and going crazy and so he starts doing it). It was really convoluted and explained way too quickly/easily though. And yeah Ennis got some weird sex stuff.

The first Saw is the worst one. The best one is probably the short film the first is based on. Anyway, to stay on topic, no Dredd 2 is probably a good thing.

I don't know how you couldn't find Power/Rangers absolutely hilarious. It only could've been better if the Rangers were using their actual weapons so the hardcore bloody FX were even more juxtaposed against the old cheesy sparks and rotoscoping.

That's kind of my problem it wasn't really Power Rangers but gritty it was more here's a gritty scenario let's Power Rangers in it in which isn't all that interesting or funny to me. Plus I haven't seen anything past the original version of the show so I was lost I guess on a bunch of things they referenced.

The short was alright. But yeah, I thought that too. Except I thought it to be too fatalist. I did like that nice callback to Billy's original actor by making him gay in that short.

This honestly makes it sound like it's not that daunting of a task. Urban and Thirlby are the only semi-recognizable actors who didn't die in the first one, and they're not exactly A-listers, so lowering the budget sounds totally plausible, and poo poo, I'd watch Dredd 2 with The Rock if that was the other option.

I think in this case you could make a pretty good case that 3D barely helped the original. It's also only like a dollar extra now here in Houston.
