Is there a way in game to remove a subscribed growable? I can't remember which one is which and if I find an ugly one I want to be able to at least see the name of it and remove it.

Rejoice, for this is a game that properly benefits from multicore CPUs and large swathes of RAM.

Remember that free memory is wasted memory, and unused CPU cycles are wasted cycles. If the software/games you run aren't peaking things out, you overspent on hardware. CSL will spend every cycle on every core it can get, on simulating your city.

You'll have to forgive me if it looks a bit different than that. I'm oldschool as hell and use Max 2010 at home still because I've disliked a lot of the interface changes that have happened since 2012. But it should be similar.

The other option is to just put in ambient lighting at a low level.

Yeah, glad people are enjoying it. Which waterfall is it, the one on the main island or the smaller one? Getting them set up right is really hellish though, it can take a long time for water to settle into its proper flow without sloshing about. Its actually my second go at the map since the first time I just worked directly off a height map and the scale was completely hosed up. Designing and playing it has given me lots of ideas on what to do on future maps.

Highways and railroads are going to have to be elevated, for one.

What's the best way to use civilian walkways? Do you have to plan them out before you start, or is it possible to bolt them onto existing city blocks? I have trouble with them, since you can't zone behind them for whatever reason.

There a ton of factors playing into this, the best way to gauge your public transportation usage is by looking at the percentage of trips saved and how full individual vehicles are. You also need to be laying down buses, rail and metro in accordance with traffic. My map is laid out in such a way so that I have rail stations serving as regional hubs, with buses and metro picking people up around each part of my city and sending them to the rail station. From there they can hop on other buses, get on the subway, or take a train to another major part of the city.

Basically, you want a setup that looks like this:

Also, keep in mind that when you lay down bus route the smiley faces that pop up show that those buildings are in range of your stops. You can space them out pretty far apart.

e: Also keep in mind that the numbers in the data screen are a little deceiving because an in game week is not a very long time at all. It takes my population over a month to get from one end of my map to the other by rail. It takes an entire day just to board a train.

This may true of the red trains coming from the connections, but your local train network with the routes you set up will take all comers.

Maybe do a query on some of the bods waiting on the platform to confirm.

Having said that, for my second city which is up to 35 thou, I've got a simple metro system with two routes on a Y and that seems to be quite effective, even with the two routes having a few stations in common.

terrain.party doesn't seem to support latitudes that high. There's gotta be an elevation map somewhere I can convert.

Though, if the game only processes elevations from 0-1000m, the point might be moot anyway. Those mountains (and the icefield nearby) are pretty drat high.

That fixed it, thanks!

Sidewalks require roads, though, and more roads mean more traffic. The point of pedestrian paths is traffic reduction. If you want to connect your neighborhoods together without delivery trucks deciding to use them as a shortcut, use pedestrian paths. Also you can elevate them, so you can make a pedestrian crossing from your residential to a nearby commercial or industrial area and people will walk there instead of driving. Pedestrians will cross at crosswalks, but you don't get crosswalks unless you build an intersection, which slows traffic. Also if you make a roundabout out of highway sections, that doesn't come with any sidewalk, so you'll have to provide paths on your own. Metro entrance across the 6 lane road from the neighborhood? Elevated walkway. High school is right behind the neighborhood but the way there by roads requires going out to the main street and back? Add a path.

I love pedestrian paths, and I've been using them all over in my city. They do have to join up to something else walkable on both ends, usually this means a sidewalk or some parks. Otherwise your cims will never be able to route to them. You can tell if they're working, because cims will start using them almost immediately. And every one of those tiny people on your path is traffic not using your roads to go somewhere. Plus once you've built a path you get to line it with trees and then admire your beautiful path. What's not to love?

I used the one that's on the same starting island/landmass as the starting road connection. It actually settled pretty damned fast, though it fluctuated between 1k-1.2k for a good while before finally settling closer to 1K. Took me a good while to find the spot though, as you mentioned it was hard to find a good spot. I've sense put my water treatment plants behind it to get 1.5K when I'm using maybe a third of that.

Basic rule of thumb is that any mod that alters gameplay roots itself into your save and becomes required for you to be able to properly load it, because without it the simulation would freak the gently caress out at all the sudden changes.

Now after a few sessions my city (And its terrible, terrible road planning) is starting to snowball into something worth caring about and I've only used two tiles of land so far and there's so much to do and watching it grow is so rewarding and oooohhh :3:
