Reminder that as terrible as Ted Cruz is, he was elected to the Senate because everyone in Texas disliked David Dewhurst even more.

go3 posted:Reminder that as terrible as Ted Cruz is, he was elected to the Senate because everyone in Texas disliked David Dewhurst even more. That isn't much an insult to David Dewhurst since the average American, Texan or not, is a loving idiot and only votes one way or another based on dumb gently caress ideas. There was an article about Obama where he was talking about the NCAA and paying college athletes. You want college athletes to get paid and you want republicans to back you? Just get Obama to say they shouldn't. It's hilarious how people don't give a gently caress about anything with legitimacy, and they vote for things based on who the gently caress our President is, and they vote based on that alone. You want all of those lovely Tumblr SJWs to get their way? Let Obama come out and start talking about safe space and how we should treat foxkins as legitimate people. This country is loving retarded. Everyone that runs is generally a loving idiot, and everyone that votes is generally a loving idiot. The two party system has destroyed politics because it's now nothing more than loving over the other guy and getting your way and making sure no one else gets their way, no matter what the other party wants. People's politics these days are shaped by poo poo that is posted on Facebook. And 90% of the poo poo posted on Facebook, whether it is conservative or liberal, isn't true, but people believe it. Find an outlet with a few hundred daily readers and submit a story about how [politician] hosed a goat on his trip to Guatemala and how he punched a baby during the Civil War and title it "[Politician] has sex with animals and punches babies" and people won't get past the headline before it is shared 4000 times and everyone believes it. Just go read the comments on Duffle Blog facebook posts. Obvious satire that people believe. Cole fucked around with this message at 23:46 on Mar 22, 2015 |

As batshit insane as the rabid far-right voting base has become I'm fairly sure all you'd have do to get a presidential bid from Raphael Edward Cruz to fail is point out his real name, Hispanic heritage and former Canadian citizenship. The pack of wolves he's courting for votes would do the rest.

Nostalgia4Infinity posted:Obama's black. Well yeah, that's the point. And while nutters will be nutters, there were columnists and pundits with a veneer or at least pretense of respectability going after Obama's eligibility with their readings of the law as it concerns natural born citizens, photoshop analysis of his birth certificate, and other such nonsense that they tried to couch in logical and legal terms. At the very least there was a lot of "well, I'm not going to say I don't believe he was born here, but I would like to see a birth certificate" which implies that if his birth certificate said he was born in Indonesia or Kenya or whatever to an American mother, that would disqualify him. Now, as luck would have it, all of these same people are being put in a position where Cruz is the most palatable candidate for them - someone who was verifiably born in a foreign country. Either they walk back their earlier statements when called out on it or (more likely in their own bubble) just ignore that lack of consistency, but the rest of us are going to get to see directly contradictory statements side by side and chuckle a little at the rank hypocrisy that is political discourse. e: Trump has already gotten in on the action, for what it's worth. The long knives coming out is an even better outcome. AreWeDrunkYet fucked around with this message at 12:32 on Mar 23, 2015 |

Being born in a foreign country doesn't disqualify you, you just have to have 1 American parent (no matter where you are born, you could be born in loving Iran and you would be fine as far as the constitutional requirement goes) in order to be eligible. So even if Obama was born in Kenya or whatever other bullshit that people trotted out, he would be eligible by virtue of having an American parent. I hope they loving slice and dice him and end his political career, because he is a super annoying fuckwit idiot.

While it wouldn't shock me all that much if the voting populace of this country was retarded enough to elect another Bush into office, I think it's highly unlikely a sizable portion of that same electorate would vote Cruz into that office let alone see him named as the GOP nominee.

Regardless. I really don't care who is running on either ticket. Because Im voting for the NAZI party this time around. Slightly better policies, slightly less racism than the Tea Party and has an equal chance of actually being elected.
