Infinite ammo vs. CYBER PUNCH!!

Theta Zero posted:

If you can't put a Pokemon in bank, it's either a special game-exclusive Pokemon (like the cosplay Pikachu) or a really poorly hacked Pokemon that doesn't fool the detection system. If that Pokemon is in a group that you selected, it also rejects the whole group until you take it out.

I think to use Bank on a game installed in your 3DS, you just access it without another Pokemon game cart inside the 3DS.

I can access all four of my Gen 6 games through Pokebank. I have a Y cart in the slot, and X+ORAS digitally downloaded. It lets me choose any one of the four.

Yes, this generation got me bad.

If you use the Bank and have a digital copy and a cartridge copy of the same game the cartridge always overrides the installed version in the game selection menu.

Take the cartridge out to get to the digital one.

I like this generation if only for finally making the jump to 3D, and you can pet your Pokemon. I'm pretty sure that's the one feature everyone wanted since this series started.

I'm still waiting for them to come up with an actually fun minigame besides Voltorb Flip. They almost had something with Super Training, but it's really just a somewhat less tedious form of EV grinding.

Voltorb flip was garbage.

Especially because they removed the ability to buy coins outright. And getting past level 7 or 8 meant relying increasingly on worse luck than the casino games it replaced. :argh:

I hated Voltorb Flip because even with knowing how to play and having a strategy (or calculator tool for those who can't comprehend it), winning any appreciable amount was completely chance. And before you say anything, yes, a 50% chance is still purely up to chance.

If the prizes cost, say, hundreds of tokens, it would've actually been fine. But amassing the thousands the game expected you to if you wanted prizes that weren't junk is way too tall of an order.

i liked playing it for the intrinsic value of the game itself. coins were nothing, i didn't even want any of the prizes.

I, on the other hand, only wanted the prizes. Doing basic equations doesn't really have intrinsic value for me. Bring back Pokeathalon though.

I remember there being a Voltorb Flip solver online somewhere which helped me earn enough coins to get prizes, but they still don't help when you turn over a Voltorb on your very first turn or it's a 50/50 shot between two squares. It's fun, but it still relied way too much on luck instead of skill, and taking out the ability to buy coins was just irritating.

Does Vitality Boost really rarely trigger or something? I was trying to capture Zapdos and was using Venasaur (the big one, I think that's what it's called) because I only had 1 ground type available anyways and it never seemed to proc.

It seems like abilities that aren't supposed to always trigger (like Power of 4/5 or Eject) very rarely trigger, which is pretty annoying. I'm okay with that for abilities like Opportunist (because its deal is it only occasionally increases damage) or Risk-Taker (because not having it trigger at all is better than it greatly decreasing it a lot) but it's pretty lovely for stuff like Vitality Drain or even worse, Hitting Streak, since that ability depends on it being triggered a lot.

Is there a reliable way to alter Pokémon stats after the fact, yet? I mean catch the dudes and then fiddle with their natures/IVs/etc.

I want to restart my Omega Ruby file and it's important to me that my team have all different/beneficial natures and such, and I don't feel like grinding anymore. I've just done too loving much of it in my illustrious Pokémon career. I made it all the way to Norman's gym when the game first came out. I bred a bunch of eggs and sent them over to use as my party. I even soft resetted for hours until my starter had a good nature and IVs. I know none of that is necessary for in-game, but it's an impossible habit to break. I even Pokémonamie'd all six members of my team to max affection. But between Smash Bros. and adult life, I stopped playing and I just wasn't feeling it. I want a clean break, so I restarted my file. I even lost the shiny Beldum and any other crazy event poo poo that's come out since ORAS came out.

TL,DR: It's my Spring Break, I'm an adult with not a lot of time on my hands, and I want to sit back and play some Pokémon without the tedium of grinding/resetting.

I have access to 2 3DS units and copies of X and Y besides Omega Ruby, if that makes any difference.

Aug 9, 2013

If you don't want any grinding tedium, then perfect Pokemon with the right nature/IVs are rarer than a shiny.

If you wanna do it easy, then inject stuff, unless you've updated your 3DS recently. Otherwise, just play through the game normally. If you're lucky, one of the Pokemon you catch will have a high IV in something.

Pick mudkip, spam water gun/mud shot and later surf/earthquake. Maybe catch a tailow for grass types. Leave exp share on.

Your IVs, EVs, and natures will not matter. Just pick mudkip.

So you ask for a way to avoid grinding and then mention that you're so obsessive that you literally can't stop yourself from grinding? Pokemon may not be the game series for you if you can't close your eyes to the stats page and just say "gently caress it, whatever, I'm rolling with a disadvantageous nature and I just don't care", at least during the initial single-player phase.

Yeah. Someone with an unupdated 3ds can use a RAM injection to modify your already caught pokes.

It'd be a bit of effort trading/modifying all of them back and forth so you'd want to offer something to sweeten the pot for someone who can already give themselves any Pokemon ever.

Nope, Destiny Knot guarantees 5 IVs, the power item guarantees that one specific IV gets passed down so you're rolling the dice on 4 IVs instead of 5 and you're also rolling the dice for a nature too.

What I did when going after a 0 Spd Aegislash was to hatch a 0Spd Honedge first, then throw a Destiny Knot on the Honedge and breed for the specific nature I was after.

There's no Pangoro in the X/Y Battle Maison, so if ORAS uses the same list (probably doesn't, though), then you're gonna have to wait a pretty drat long time.

Wonder trade is completely random, you get matched with some other person and you do a blind trade basically. I've gotten a bunch of first route mons, and also a Mewtwo in a Masterball and everything in between. A lot of time you'll get 'breedjects', or the almost perfect pokemon that clog up your PC that people trade out instead of releasing. Eevees and Starters are incredibly common, they're what you'll get most of overall.

The GTS is the older style centralized trade system where you can put up a pokemon and ask for something in return.

I've been tossing old Piplup breeding stock up on GTS for pokedex filler and people will give you whatever common stuff you want for them, especially if you note they have 3+ 31 IVs. I haven't tried asking for legendaries but I could see a good 5-6 IV Piplup or a shiny being traded for some junk legendary with how easy it is to inject legendaries in now.

Still love you, Homar

I was able to trade Octillery for basically every legendary in ORAS. People couldn't be bothered to initially catch him I guess (5% encounter rate?). I finally caught one, then just DexNav'd them and put them up on GTS for all the legendaries I wanted. I could have probably done it with Corsola too.

Might not work anymore, this was a couple months ago.
