My brother-in-law is a nice guy but makes some retarded decisions at auctions. He bought some  CUSTOMIZED Olds (I think) at Barret-Jackson, paid waaay too much, the loving thing wouldn't run long enough to drive to be loaded on the trailer at the auction, and as far as I know it's languishing in his garage in Grande Prairie for the last 5 years.

Yeah to continue with Powershift's talk of fatigue on the road, it's ironic that the laws in place for hours of service really don't do anything but make it difficult to sleep when you need to. I can't tell you how many loving times through the years, especially running hard in the USA, where I would get maybe 3 hours sleep and then sit around playing solitaire for 7 hours before getting back on the road, because even though I'm not the least bit tired, the law says I have to pull over. And then 5 hours into my shift, now I'm dead loving tired and perfectly legal to drive.

The City of Edmonton thought it a good idea last night to patch potholes at 11:30pm a couple blocks from where I live... Despite it being -3 at the time and there being a freeze/thaw cycle for the next few days, and despite the fact that we got about 4 inches of wet snow within the past 48 hours

City of red deer told me they knew about the pothole I hit last year and told me to pound sand. Said it's on my insurance if there is a lot of damage. That same pothole remained semi submerged for a week before they steamed the drains open and filled it in. There are a lot of huge holes pretty much everywhere this year and somehow there are hellaflush cars everywhere. I bent a factory BMW rim with 215/65r16 tires. I couldn't imagine stretched tires on chinesium junk will live through many.

Yup, it varies from city to city but if they were unaware of the pothole, they don't have a responsibility to help with repair costs, if they knew about the pothole, they have something like 48 hours to fix it and after that are partly responsible for vehicle damage.

A few years ago a 1979 RX-7 was in the TSD at Sports Car Olympics, the Thanksgiving Weekend O' Fun in Regina. Their TSDs are entirely dirt and gravel, and that RX-7 lost 2 tires. I believe the drivetrain was fine.

The Red Bull one was strictly on public city streets. The ones I'm running this year for the club will be as well since they're basically substitutes for our Auto-X's since we lost our venue. There are a lot of city-driving TSDs. I know they have them all over BC and the AB vintage car clubs (which you probably qualify for with your ancient Scirocco, you know where I am if you need a codriver) do a bunch of regularity rallies that don't necessarily involve the balls to the wall offroading of the Loop or the Gnu. Also I have a project in mind to build a Loop-capable FC RX7, it's just a matter of getting a cheap enough car to start from.

I'm sure vintage car clubs would love my rusted out Scirocco. I don't mind the balls to the wall stuff I just there wasn't the occasional stage where I cave in my oil pan going half the speed required. I'd be very interested to hear your plans for a Loop-capable FC. edit: Vintage Sports Car Club of Calgary has a Chrysler Crossfire listed on their "our cars" page, I can't imagine my scirocco would be more offensive then that. I believe its called the Loop on name alone now. Last December was 12 hours starting at 7pm and ending at 7am. It was reasonably technical, one section had the road shift over 10 feet to the right coming out of a right hand corner that resulted in me completely flying off the road at 60kph, . The oil pan got crushed in the second to last stage that I would say is more of an ATV trail and didn't resemble anything close to a road. I mean I really am to blame running a TSD on $250 coilovers in a $1,000 car where the lowest point is the oil pan, but the year before there was a particularly nasty Texas gate that caved in my oil pan and completely took the skid plate and lower front bumper off another. Hwy 22 North of Pincher is a reasonable too, far more scenic than Hwy 2 at least. Typically the Forestry Trunk road is closed north of Coleman until late May if not early June.
