Anyways all the cool kids got their CDs from Columbia House which really wasn't even that bad of a deal (something like 11 CDs in total for a little over 100 bucks is pretty good even now)

The cooler kids did it several times, with fake names. :colbert: BMG, as well.

I think I did bmg at least 3 times and never paid anything I'm not sure how looking back nor why my parents didn't care. I did the same thing with the science fiction book club while in college.

I still have these cards, and can possibly find them in a junk cupboard along with my old baseball/basketball and Xmen cards if anyone is interested in seeing some.

Please do.

And I qualify TV Guide as 90's because that was the last decade it was relevant. Although this is probably more 90's than that:

"When is [X] coming on, shoot, just missed the channel. I'll channel surf for a few minutes until it cycles back. Okay, long enough. Whoops, just missed it again." Until you give up and watch the drat channel for the few minutes it takes to come back to the channel you wanted to see.

This is totally still a thing if you have still have cable TV, which my family did for a little while in the early part of this decade (I don't remember exactly what year).

They redesigned it a little, but it's basically the same.

You didn't say what I think you said...

This is a bit back in the thread but oh, Chip & Pepper was huge in my high school back in the day as was anything tie dye. But man, it indirectly got a major local retailer closed down - and I could have maybe played a small part in preventing it. I'm bored, I feel like writin', so have an EN tale from the 90s in the 90s thread.

So, the story, I was a cleaner at the local The Bay, and happened to be sweeping when I came across a store manager, Murray, talking to a couple of national big wigs who were in town for meetings/inspections. They were talking about popular clothing and this ensued:

Murray in a hyped-up excited manner: "And yeah, we should definitely get some of that salt and pepper stuff, kids just love it."
Big wigs: ".... salt and pepper?"
Murray, in a slightly annoyed, hyped-up excited manner: "Yeah Salt & Pepper, they're really popular."
Big wigs: ".... you really mean salt and pepper?"

Now I was right beside them at this point and could have quickly interjected and set things straight. But that would have almost certainly have gotten me fired because this Murray guy? He happened to be an epic, epic rear end in a top hat. This was before anyone knew about autists and sperglords, but holy hannah, he was deep on the spectrum. And his thing was that he couldn't be corrected by anyone he was above in heirarchy and/or had power over. Since he had power over the cleaning crew, well, I learned the hard way once.

I was helping him and another guy set up a huge stereo in electronics. He hooked the left and right cables up backwards, I noticed right away and said 'oh, hey, the speaker cables are reversed'. The other guy snapped up straight and just looked at me shaking his head and Murray? Murray yelled 'GET INTO MY OFFICE RIGHT NOW'. I went in, he followed and, beet red in the face, screamed 'YOU DON'T EVER TELL ME WHAT TO DO, I WOULD HAVE FIGURED IT OUT, NOW GET THE gently caress BACK OUT THERE AND DO YOUR JOB." I was absolutely stunned. And I found out from multiple people on crew that night that he does that to everyone except his fellow managers and bosses.

So, I kept my head low and didn't say anything when condiments came up instead of bulldogs, because to correct him in front of high management? Well, not then and there but five minutes later I would have been fired for certain and probably found myself defending myself from violence at the same time.

So the Murray/High Bosses conversation goes on for a few more minutes, they leave and all is fine and dandy... until a month later when they told us they were shutting the store down for retrofitting and restructuring. One of the reasons for restructuring was it had become apparent some managers had an appalling lack of market trends and branding, which for a progressive, evolving store like the The Bay was intolerable.

Store closed, construction ensued and six months later it closed for good.

When I read the shutting down story in the newspaper, I couldn't help but think they meant Murray when they referred to the lack of knowledge and how I might have helped out saving things that one little way. A lot of good people not-Murray lost their jobs over that whole thing.

People have posted it before but I've always wondered:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rqZZgVxnCk

Why was this particular commercial so overplayed on channels like Nickelodeon? I remember that at least once per show there was one adbreak that included this commercial. Not only that but it lasted an insane amount of time, that commercial had to have existed for years at that insane overplayed rate.

Did Sears just really stand behind their air conditioner deals or something?

He wishes. I remember tons of protests at his concerts in the latter part of the 90s. The dumbfucks didn't realize they were doing exactly what he wanted them to, and were in fact doing tons of free marketing for him.

Marilyn Manson was menacing and threatening until a man who had a lot more authentic anger which came from a very real place (Eminem) started getting mainstream attention.
