Oh my god, we're launching from one never-ending debate straight into another!

... Have we ever seen Anthony and Jones in the same shot? What if they are one and the same?

It could be an experiment, in which Jones gives one subject the appearance of love and affection, while Jones gives the other subject a lovely dad.

Science occurs.

Lipstick Apathy
Looks like someone told him to treat his daughter like any other student, probably because he was visibly fretting about it and overthinking it, and then Tony overthought the advice and is treating Annie exactly like a student who hosed up, right down to pretending she has no business asking about his hand.

He's still a terrible father.

maybe she's being transferred to another class or house, that's why she doesn't have a book for this class and why anyone sane at all assigned Tony to teach the class with his daughter in it.

which is why we got to learn about Jack Hyland's proxy girlfriend and more about how the Court sources students

the titular tree comes into play when Tony contrives some non-obvious way for Annie to remain in regular contact with her bestie (in some typically indirect way exhibiting idiomatic apple/treeesque natures), which may or may not additionally involve the simulator room tree around which Annie and Kat just affirmed their forever-friendship

That actually makes a lot of sense. It would be a great direction if Annie gets transfered to another part of town this year. She has grown kind of comfy with her usual gang. Getting thrown into a totally new situation where she doesn't know anybody might play out fine, since she had quite some emptional growth since the last time that happened.

Or she gets thrown into the new enviroment, acts cold, disinterested and unemotional. This turns everyone new away from her since they think she is just like her father. "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

So given that this is literally his first day of teaching, and he already knows that she's cheating, does this mean the headmaster (or someone else) brought him back specifically for her? "..it was discovered.." and all.

Anthony: "No. That won't be necessary. Let ME deal with her."

I would like to note that we never heard what exactly did Anthony say to Antimony in the message in Microsat 5. Maybe all this makes more sense when you know what was said there. Kat's dad told Annie to write it down, rather then say it.

It's interesting to consider, though. Annie's dealing in matters of life and death and existence, and her life expectancy is like 35. Should she really be taking classes on math? Education can be seen as self-enrichment, but at the high school level, it really isn't.

Is that controversial? High school education is too broad and shallow to be really helpful to most, it essentially only prepares you for college/dropping out and getting a job. It's a pretty clumsy system.
