This is exactly the situation I find myself in. I haven't gotten to test drive any of them yet, but street buzz has me leaning towards the FiST. Several trackday friends have let me know that the FiST is a great daily fun car, which is part of why I'm looking at it.

Do it! I can't see myself having $15000 worth of more fun in a focus RS than I do in the fiesta. Sure it looks like a great car, and I'll wasn't a used one down the road, but new it's just not worth it to me at the expected price.

Totally loving gutless under 6k, but pretty nice once you reach that power band.

The FiST really is good. I've driven a couple now and it's a fun little go-cart. Plus I've been driving a Fiesta for almost three years and the size is rarely an issue. The only issue I have with the FiST is not offering the auto dimming rear view mirror or backup camera from the Titanium. I know it's to keep cost down but they could at least offer them. Non issues though, I could at least buy the mirror an put it in myself.

I want to try the Mustangs to satisfy my inner teenager. When I was in middle/high school I wanted a fox body 5.0 badly.

I've never understood dimming mirrors. I never flip my mirror to dark. Glare is annoying, but with it dimmed you lose all depth perception since you can't see anything but random lights behind you. I suppose if you simple want a binary traffic-behind/no-traffic-behind you thing...

Wouldn't GoldenEye require more practice to play correctly? I was under the impression that longer throws would at least help with making up for your mistakes, even if they were less intuitive.

The shifter in the BMW E34 is possibly one of the best ever made. It made such a satisfying little brrrpt vibration as you got a gear and you could flail that shifter around with no resistance at all.

I find the same with the FiST. If I decide to spend any more 'non-maintenance' on it, it will be for a boomba transmission adapter

That was a factor in my choosing the Focus over the Fiesta. The shifter in the Fiesta is both lower, and further forward than the shifter in the Focus, at least to my 'feel' when sitting in the cars.

I'm not sure if you're making the same assumption I did; but the auto dimming in modern cars is different to the manual dimming I'd experienced in older (pre-2000s) cars. It's like a progressive tint based on the amount of light the HID totting morons behind you are pouring into your car and is actually really handy in my superior AUDM FiST :smuggo:

The springs were not difficult at all to install, just time consuming. Using the cheap Harbor Freight spring compressors took the longest but they worked fine and at $15 they were totally worth it. The springs I went with were Mountune Sports and while they are only 5% stiffer than the stockers they are actually a bit more forgiving for every day driving as they are progressive rather than linear. Small bumps in the road aren't as jarring any more and it seems to feel a bit more planted when cornering. I haven't done any spirited driving since upgrading so I can't really comment on their performance as of yet but everything I've read about them says they're definitely worth the price. I was mainly going for the slightly softer every day ride and getting rid of some of that wheel gap. I definitely like them so far!

They also get you heated seats and heated side mirrors. I'm a fairly big guy and I would get them if I bought a FiST. They can also be had in molten orange to match the molten orange paint you're obviously going to get.

I test drove both versions and I'd say the recaros are an absolute must. The regular seats lack support all over and make the interior feel very cheap. I didn't even take turns very fast with the salesman in the car and I could tell I'd be sliding all over the place during spirited diving without them.

I've had my fiesta with recaros for 10k miles now and I couldn't imagine the car without them.

I'm going to chime in too, besides the holding you in place when driving like a madman, they look great and really make the car (to non car people) look way more sporty. I have the molten orange ones, and they can be difficult to keep clean if you wear dark stained blue jeans but some Scotchguard would help with that.

I'm kind of chunky 5'8 230lbs and after I broke the seats in they feel pretty good, you just have to lower into them, you can plop onto the bolsters or you'll get nasty creases. If your smaller there's no good reason not to get them.

Other than saving yourself like $2000. As a counterpoint, I've taken our FiST on trips from Ohio to Florida, North Carolina, and West Virginia twice and don't have any complaints about the regular cloth seats and they didn't need any sort of break-in to be comfortable. However, I don't autocross the car or anything like that so I don't have much of a need for extra bolstering. If you have similar needs, don't feel bad about saving yourself the cash and skipping the Recaros.

I can't speak to a Golf or an R but my GTI feels solid and ... professional? It's super classy and refined, but grippy and racey at the same time.

Mine has the autobahn package, so no tartan seats :/ but it does have the killer leather "Top Sport" seats which are like the Recaros in the Focus I drove. They're bolstered all around and hug you in the cockpit.

Also, on the Recaro discussion, there is more in the ST2 package than the seats, but the seats are quite nice. I'm very glad I have the upgraded stereo, it's not as good as my old aftermarket one, but it's good enough that I'm not really tempted to change it out. Also automatic dual zone climate control (which now that I've been using it for a while, I'm sort of spoiled on), the big touch-screen infotainment center thingie.
