Let's get a little crazy. Let's have some fun.

quote:

New staff : The Lawyer
Unlocked in the usual way through Bureaucracy, and requires his own office.
The lawyer grants access to a variety of legal loopholes and new facilities for your prison.

- Minimum cell size removal
Prison Cells can be built to any size - they are no longer to obey the legal minimum
of 3x2 metres. Note they must still contain a bed and a toilet.

- Indeterminate sentences
Prisoners can now be assigned lockup or solitary confinement that remains in place
until you say otherwise. This is a massive breach of their human rights, but the Lawyer
will allow you to skirt the issue and do it anyway.

- Death Row
Opens up the opportunity and responsibility of executing prisoners sentenced to death.

Is it possible to assign prisoners to particular cells? I'd probably want guys on permanent lockdown to have a shower and a TV to help keep their needs down. I guess I could just make anyone on permanent lockdown supermax, and give all the supermax guys bigger cells since they are the most likely to be locked down.

Or gently caress 'em and just use permanent solitary instead.

Just starting playing this and I'm having a blast. drat if those reform programs don't gently caress up the profit margin, though.

I noticed in a recent session that a prisoner was hanging out in the road with nothing separating him from escape. Once free time was over he turned right around and the guard stationed at the front gates let him back in. Guess he likes the place! I should probably use those "staff only" area things.

I like the idea that the prisoner is so dumb he thinks "free time" is time he spends out of the prison, and then he comes back because free time is over :(

Hey now, plenty of countries have prisons where "free time" you can get out and stop by the corner store two blocks out.

Yes you can - if you select a prisoner and right click on a cell it will assign that prisoner to the cell, even if someone is already in there (in that case the one that already has that cell will be moved to a different one).

*edit* one thing to bear in mind is that if the cell you assign them to doesn't match their current security level, it's NOT going to change their security level to compensate. I think what happens is that they just get immediately reassigned to a cell with the correct security designation, effectively ignoring where you said to send them.

Have you tried keeping their needs fulfilled?

There's two ways to keep prisoners docile, one is massive control with armed guards to keep everyone suppressed all the time, the other is to keep everyone happy.

I don't have a shrink yet so I cant see tgeir needs I had like 5 dudes get injured because they were rioting.

I had all the basics... shower yard with bench food.. maybe I need a bigger canteen.

My struggle right now when playing is making my prison scalable to support more prisoners I make a kitchen then its a huge pain to make it bigger for more prisoners.

Getting a full administrative staff should always be one of your earliest goals, they are incredibly useful for managing your prison

Don't bother trying to upscale your first prison, especially if you're still learning. You can eventually sell it and get more funds to build a bigger one.

Also they reworked the kitchens/supply system so that it's pretty easy to utilize multiple kitchens/canteens

The easiest way to play is definitely build a lovely prison, sell it and use the money to build a better but still mediocre prison. Then sell that and build a proper prison.
When starting a new prison after a sale, the first thing to do is turn off intake, build the minimum offices, and research all the poo poo + hire office staff.

To add to this, when you get $700k or $800k in starting funds, save that file when you first start and then use it as a template for new prisons. I've been starting off the same $850k map for several alphas now whenever I want to build a new prison.

You can approach it any way you like, it's just easier to learn if your first prison is basically a trial run since this game has no proper tutorial yet. There's nothing stopping you from continually adding to your first prison and/or making renovations since there's nothing in this game you can't remove and rebuild later.

Since you are working for a for-profit prison company, it even makes some sense that you can sell off the assets of a successful project and get assigned to a bigger budget project.

If you really want to start small and work your way up on a single lot, the easiest way might be to make your initial prison not easily expandable. Just build what you need. Once you get a small stable collection of buildings producing a profit, fence it off and make a second larger compound (once you get offices built and an accountant you gain the ability to buy more land to grow your prison). Later you can convert the starter prison to a self-contained compound for your Protective Custody or Supermax prisoners who you don't want mixing with the general population just by changing the deployment settings.

I had this happen in one prison. The spot they kept signalling was well away from any cell block and not near any pipes or on any route that would make sense for prisoners to be tunneling. I tried searching every cell block each time they signaled, and nothing. I was curious if it might be a disconnected piece of tunnel that somehow exists through a glitch.

A simple search is unlikely to uncover a tunnel unless the prisoner is in the act of digging it while the search is being performed. Order the toilets in the cells most likely to be the tunnels' origin dismantled - dismantling the toilet that is the starting point of a tunnel will reveal any connected tunnels 100% of the time.

But if you're lazy like me and don't want to deal with uninstalling and re installing like a dozen toilets, repeated cell block searches will eventually reveal any tunnels, even if they are not being actively dug at the time (unless they changed this in the most recent alpha)

I've found tunnels without dismantling and reassembling toilets. I normally just search cell blocks at night, higher chance they are digging then.

I'm annoyed that CIs don't warn you about them though. It should be harder to keep a huge escape tunnel that has been under construction for months by a whole cell block secret than the shank or the fork someone stole from the canteen that morning.
