I still read and dig Unsounded a whole bunch. I just kinda viscerally hate Murk since the story seems to be perfectly great as it is right now. Guy's kinda the poochie of the whole deal.

The ending we all want is, really, for Duane to come back to life and hang out with his family again. We also all know that is never, ever going to happen. And honestly, if it did, we'd probably feel a bit cheated. I think in the end Duane will accomplish some big noble things and eventually go to his rest fulfilled. That's probably the best ending we can hope for for him.

One thing that I'm curious/worried about: when Duane dives through the hole in the wall he turns into Khert Ghost Duane. I assume he's not truly shuffling off this mortal coil--but even if he's just leaving his body for a little vacation, that means there's a vacant body hanging there with a direct line to the Khert, which has a crazy rape sorcerer hanging around looking for a way out...

I think you got your numbers backwards. I can see why he's hated, but at the same time, I don't think he's done anything to deserve the level of hate he's getting. Not yet, anyway. I'm fully sure that he will, but so far I think most of the hatred pointed towards him is really just generated because people heard he was the authors favorite character in some other story or something, and they don't want to see him have any sort of importance in the story because of that.

Most of us who aren't Down With the Murk are still reading and have managed to restrain our distaste to a couple of off-hand jokes as seen above. As you can see, everyone really is giving Cope the benefit of the doubt. In fact, this current line of discussion was mostly brought about by you griping about a long-past multipage derail everyone else had already gotten over.
