I wouldn't give up another slot for a second mage though, just try to remember boss weaknesses and go at it.

Summons are even worse to level. That said, if/when you get a magic user some 3 and 4 star skills at level 3+ they're useful for bosses, but to be perfectly honest unless you have some lop-sided luck with the Gacha your magic users will simply never be able to compete with Cloud because Cloud with a 5 star sword or katana can use elemental melee attacks, and get his attack boosted by a 1 star skill for several rounds. I rarely used black magic until recently and that was only because I needed magic to kill Amon on his expert level to get Kain's crystal and he dodges melee attacks like crazy, and Golbez has a spot on my team mainly because I pulled his weapon from the gacha and he's tanky for a magic user and he's goddamn Golbez. I imagine that people who can actually farm the tier 4 dailies for (occasional) 4 star orb drops to make and upgrade 4 star spells/summons, magic is probably really nice. Early on though it's just not going to hold a candle to physical characters. Right now the best team is just 5 physical characters or 4 physical characters and Tyro or the White Mage for healing. For anyone who really wants to use magic, you can get a 4star staff from the expert version of the 2nd ff7 level, and I think Octomann gives a 4 star rod on his expert level. Though the easiest way to get both is probably going to be farming dailies until you can make the elemental attacks (thunder mainly) for cloud to use to just decimate those bosses with accordingly.

Emphasis: Thunder Strike is loving ridiculous and if you don't have it, get it. Watching Cloud chump Guard Scorpion and Air Buster for 2500 damage a hit is awesome. So hey, quick FF13 question. I hope there's an actual explanation for this because otherwise I'm very confused. I've cleared Titan's Trials and I've cleared all 7 of the circle hunts and...well, nothing happened. I thought that was the trigger for making the stronger enemies appear on the Steppe?

I agree that what Tabata said is pretty stupid when taken literally. however I also believe that there is at least a decent chance that what he meant to convey is being misunderstood due to a poor choice of words on his part. That sort of thing happens all the time. You shouldn't get so worked up over it or at the very least you should consider this as a possibility.

Leveling 4 and 5 star gear is expensive and IIRC, upgrading a 5 star to a 6 star (which takes a 2nd of that same 5 star item) is 200k or so. Unlesss you're insane or a whale you shouldn't be upgrading 5 star gear to 6-7 stars because 99% of the time you can get more use out of an extra 5 star weapon/armor, especially when running the game it's from. I have a Katana and bangle on Cloud and both are FF7 items. He has something like 430-440 atk and 300+ defense when I run a FF7 dungeon. There's also 3 star version of the elemental strikes (and -aja spells) that will probably come to the English version a few updates down the road. I just finished a difficulty 72 dungeon where Cloud was doing 9700-9999 damage with the 3 star fire/thunder strikes (while boosted) to the boss (while his defense was reduced). Cloud rules and I really need to pull a 2nd 5 star Katana some day (or another sword) so I can bring Sephiroth on to my team since I think he can use the skills too. If there's one thing you should be doing is putting Cloud on your team and never taking him off. You will always want melee and Cloud's options with skills makes him the #1 or #2 melee choice. Ideally you want to get at least 2-3 elemental strikes so you can always hit a weakness (or at least not an absorb/defense) with them. Thunder then Fire/Ice, then Ice/Fire would be my suggestion since Cloud using the thunder attack can mean a potential expert clear for Octomann and the FF7 levels at the very least, getting you a 4 star rod and staff for any magic user you want to use. I still use the 4 star staff on Lenna because the only caster weapon I've pulled is Golbez's axe, which is amazing but not as much magic power as a rod/staff (but more atk).

Well I'm out of regular content to run in Record Keeper, all that's left for me is the elite dungeons and daily stuff. I'm really struggling with the elite things. Is there any good way to grind? I get like no EXP even on boosted characters.

6's probably the crappiest port since the graphics are pretty much worse across the board besides the battle backgrounds, while at least 5 has redone monster sprites that look nice and the map isn't as ugly. If you can overlook the graphics and touch-screen controls, they're both playable and have a few minor gameplay enhancements over the GBA ports (most notable being Auto-Battle). FF3 and FF4 are pretty similar to the DS version except without the dumb WiFi stuff of 3 or the minigame stuff of 4. Of course, the 3 remake sucks rear end while the 4 remake has some ramped-up difficulty but is still fine. 1 and 2 are probably same as ever, except easier. Dimensions is supposed to be decent if you don't mind a stupid plot, though I wasn't a big fan. Similar thing with The After Years, though it's the only version of the game with 3D graphics. You can't go wrong with any of them besides with all of them. Best option is probably to emulate if possible, but otherwise 4 is probably the least terrible of the ports.
