Happy to help Since your setup worked for the last week (and Netflix works currently) it really should sort itself out. As you said, there was a big release last week which probably means lots of people locking in the following sunday which in turn might lead to random weirdness.

It would be neat if the tutorial for Bloodborne wasn't just a series of notes you can't access on-the-fly. Also if there was a bit more guidance on where to go and how to achieve it. But it's not so bad so far. Apparently I should have found the first boss by now but instead I have just been exploring new places and mostly not immediately dying. I have no idea what to do with all these blood things I keep collecting. e: Prelim review from someone who has never played a Souls game: seems promising, the notes are cool, I'm always lost.

There isn't some set time for when you should have found the first boss. Just loving explore, play the game at your own pace, and stumble upon most of the poo poo. Don't let other people tell you what you should be doing in a Souls game.

You can parry the cleric beast by shooting him in the head (which requires you to lock on & adjust your lock point to his head) hope u dont kill yourself twitter dude! FROM is really good at 'game design' stuff that is mostly invisible. If you watch EpicNameBro's lets plays he talks about it a lot at the various points in levels where: treasure you find signals up coming challenges (poison, enemy weaknesses, etc), how the players camera & enemy movements on entering an area signal to the player where to proceed, the structure of ambushes the game has which can be figured out if you are paying remotely attention. Not this guy levels of annoyed, but annoyed nonetheless. Is BB genuinely so goddamn fun that going back and playing an area over and over is a good thing? Not being snarky, it's a legit question since I dunno if I want to pick this up at full price or not.

Not this guy levels of annoyed, but annoyed nonetheless. BB has short cuts you open by traversing the level the long way which eventually make the route to the boss really short, you might have to fight like ~5-10 enemies to get to the boss. By playing through the levels again if you die you gain mastery over fighting the enemy types or learn how to best avoid fighting them at all. I guess it can be annoying for people who really suck? Some games give you a CP after like every fire fight or something which the souls games clearly do not do, but it really just boils down to eventually you get a level on 'farm mode' where you know how best to defeat each enemy, where they are located, you've scoured for all the treasure so you dont have to run back through every dead end, and it becomes quick & mostly painless.

Not this guy levels of annoyed, but annoyed nonetheless. Take that article with a huge grain of salt. The dude went on twitter and had a meltdown and argued with people and then though that he could write an unbiased opinion piece about the game where he had a bunch of misinformation or didn't really understand what was being presented to him. If you die in Bloodborne it's because you (the player) did something to screw up or were too aggressive, or not paying attention to the mob behind you or something that you could have done to not put yourself into that situation. You have to be patient and pick/fight your battles on your own terms. There are checkpoints and shortcuts that open up as you progress. It should not take you 12 hours to beat the first boss. Like at all. That reads as somebody who just ran around a lot and pressed buttons without taking the time to learn the game. My friend who has never played Souls beat the first boss after five hours and called me to tell me how awesome it was and how he felt about it and then immediately moved into a new area with new enemies and died because he didn't understand what the monsters did and he laughed about it and went on. I'd say that experience is more on the normal side than mr. ign crybaby.

I never played a souls game before last night. I came into central yarnhum walked down the stairs and beat the poo poo out of a few dudes, then went to the bonfire and got my rear end handed to me by 50 pitchfork fucks. I restarted and went to the bonfire and timidly killed all the dudes, then retraced my steps to some back alley where this dude with a bludgeoning axe proceeded to push my poo poo in. I restarted about 40 more times trying to kill both the axe dude (guy's an rear end in a top hat) and the bonfire enemies without dying at all, knowing I had made absolutely zero progress in the game. After I accomplished this I was familiar with the controls, had several thousand blood echoes to repair and upgrade, and explored to the shortcuts and bridge area. Haven't beaten the boss yet, but I'm glad I didn't turn the game off in frustration and come back to it later. There is something to be gained by just pushing through.

This is the first time I've played a From Software game and although I was at first hesitant on the whole "there's just one restore savepoint in the first central area" the first huge shortcut organically leads you to so many other routes that it's not really such a bad thing. I never played any Souls games (besides the first DarkSouls which I didn't really feel like continuing on with due to how loving ugly it looked) but expected it to be some ridiculous hatefest. It's not at all, and I think the reputation for it as a "game designed to kill you" is mostly based on how you learn things organically as opposed to "see these big giant dudes? practice riposte on these guys because it's gonna help in a boss battle" or learning not to overextend yourself. Mega Man is a pretty stupid thing to compare to, though. Historically most Megaman bosses are just going to be laughably easy if you have the right weapon, or a long slog if you don't. Bloodborne pretty much gives you the tools to tough it out from the get-go.

I like the game but seriously.

You're right, most of the time it's your fault if you die. Except when there's three hunters than can all kill you in a single hit and are literally just there to annoy you at the point you face them.

I was having fun with BB until I ended up in a place full of monsters that take 75-100% of my health per hit and which seems to have no exit back to an easier area or to the hub.

I decided to use the 10% discount to get drive club since that plus the PS+ discount made it cheaper than buying a disc copy and selling later. Its the best "straight" driving game I've ever played, actually feel like my real "driving in the western Canadian mountains every day" skills help, unlike every other driving game. Got obliterated online of course, but single player hands out trophies like candy. I got 9 in about an hour's worth of playing time. Also bought Borderlands since I never played it last gen. 2 has made a good first impression, basically reverse Destiny where the gunplay is a little less satisfying but the world has depth.
