Auckland, NZ has a crazy property market at the moment. It's in a big growth phase, and potential bubble, while the rest of the country is doing mediocre. Some of the auctions are going over what the property value is, significantly if they are in a good area. Although the sales could attract bargain hunters unwilling to pay much for the properties. I'm betting a number of the owners lose out because they didn't sell it themselves.

BossRighteous posted:People in the US are really enamored with the idea of spending 100k to purchase their very own minimum wage management job. Or is that an international trend? Food-related businesses get the worst of it because it's so easy to romanticize. You don't see people rushing to open their own office supply stores or whatever, at least not to the same degree as coffee shops/food-trend chasing shops/restaurants. Office supplies are boring, but everyone loves food! Then people actually open a place and realize that running a restaurant is loving hard work, doesn't pay as well as they thought it did, and has trouble attracting new customers over the 100 other restaurants already established in the area.

Buying a restaurant is really the next logical step after completing a PhD in social studies and having a giant student loan. If the restaurant becomes successful then you need to take so much money out of the business that you can't pay any creditors. Then fall behind in taxes and have the IRS seize the business and continue operations until the tax bill is paid. This is the American Dream that Hunter S. Thompson went in search of but didn't find it.

What I found interesting is that the two poorest states by median income (West Virginia and Mississippi) are near the top in car spending. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_income I guess this is how these people STAY poor, by living the truck equity American dream.

Is Wyoming also an oil field state? A bunch of young dudes with little to no university education all making huge dollars in towns without some of the usual financial trappings for disposable income (read: women), or at least from what I understand about it.

why would you care about gas prices outside of the biggest decision you make (your car purchase) and whether or not you can afford to fill the tank? everything else seems to be hemming and hawing & wasting time counting pennies.

Considering the fraud, could they just void his liability policy and tell the concerned party to come after him? Or was the fraud technically committed after the accident, so that wouldn't be possible?

They would have to honor his policy as written at the time of the accident; the attempt at fraud would be a separate criminal matter and will undoubtedly get his insurance dropped

And my short term disability is out. I also live about 25 miles from my job. Yet they got another location less then 5 miles from where i am currently living. Since i had to move cause i lost my house due to this. My job is basically tellin me to go gently caress myself as far as transferring. Jeffrey of YOSPOS posted:it's a special case of "Small talk", it is very important and grown up to have banal conversations in which you say things like "those gas prices, drat huh?" and the other guy nods in agreement It also depends a bit on where you live and how gas is priced. In Canada, we do everything in litres and it isn't uncommon to see a jump in the posted price of ten or more cents. Ten cents per litre is about 38 cents per gallon, so knowing when and where to buy gas can save you an appreciable amount of money per month.

That guy probably paid cash for that and modded it, since it's a much older Dodge. I'm talking straight, off-the-lot-temporary-tags-in-place-60k$-truck sitting in front of a single wide that is falling apart. Fix your goddamned house first, dipshit. The pull of a pickup truck in the South is apparently insatiable. I've owned two, but they were small (Tacoma), fit my needs and were under 20k. I drive a 4800$ 16yo 4Runner I paid cash for now and I can afford to live in a house that isn't falling apart. It isn't rocket science. Car status is a real thing, and I can't imagine how many little kids go without because their dipshit parents want to drive a NICE NEW RAHD instead of taking care of them.
