I wonder if they're "allergic" to fresh fruit lemon or lime juice.

I'm betting it's sulfites, they're often used as a preservative in dried fruit and in some of those other things too.

Actually it just looks like she's probably allergic to sulfites like I am. Sulfites are in vinegar, wine, bottled citrus juice, dried fruit, most of the stuff she listed. I'm mildly allergic and only react if I have huge amounts (I got hives due to medicine as a kid so was told to avoid sulfites), so I can have some vinegar and stuff, but other people are way more sensitive unfortunately.

The card should totally explain that though as it would make her seem way more sympathetic.

Except I doubt she was as she called down to order tonight. Wanted a brick chicken, I explain to her that its brined for a few days in a solution that contains red wine vinegar. Also, we spray our fries with red wine vin after blanching. So, I tell her that her options are the Salmon, Filet, Ribeye, etc.

Then tells me she can have those things when they're cooked, just not raw. :smithicide:

I wonder what would be in the sourdough bread? Is it just preservatives in commercial breads?

At least with dried fruits you can get unsulfered varieties. Do those taste different from the sulfured varieties though? I usually buy the unsulfured kind since I actually like the look of them better.

I guess summing it up with "sulfite allergy" would be better, but the list to state what you can or cannot have would still be neccessary to sum up what it means, I guess.

and yeah, the internet tells me that sourdough bread is sulfite-safe, so to speak, so it remains a mystery.

actually, I think people would be better of keeping the list in their heads and order accordingly, she could've just ordered cooked stuff, as she apparently can handle that perfectly well. Sjeez.

Maybe it's an allergy to lactic acid bacteria fermentation? That would explain sourdough bread, aged cheese, and fish sauce (I just assume they're in there). But the list should really have yogurt in there. What a bleak an horrific existence without lactic acid bacteria.

Edit: also maybe I'm thinking way too hard about somebody else's food allergies. But I just need to know.

If this were the case, she would have had a reaction to the pickle she got with her burger, since we ferment ours.

Owch, that looks like a histamine allergy/sensitivity. I have a friend with that. She also has problems with avocados and mushrooms. whoa, maybe it's because I've not looked at those lists in a while but I never knew this. That sucks.

I get brutal migraines from time to time, and thankfully my food/drink triggers are pretty limited. I know my body loving hates sugary alcohol. I used to love rum and cokes until I realized they were like instadeath for me. Sweet liquors like Fireball, etc kill me. Oddly enough I can guzzle whiskey/y and wines with no problem. Smells are what kill me. It took a bit to figure out as a kid but certain vanilla scented candles basically make my head explode with pain and puke. The other one was pickled beats. Smelling, much less eating, used to cause the worst goddamn migraines as a kid. But I can eat borsct by the gallon. go figure.

back to food, I forgot I had an Amazon Prime trial and got an email today about that and seeing that Paul Prudhomme's louisiana kitchen is on sale for $20.

I gotta get a new script for that stuff. I lost my insurance and went to go for a refill and my neurologist wouldn't approve unless I came in and paid cash, that gently caress. Never had any problems with my dosage, that's certainly not something people would abuse. Did not get that at all.

You won't want to eat. For reals, all I had for 5-6 days was broth. I also had complications, and some bits of tooth left in, and woke up twice during my operation. Apparently, it takes much drugs to knock me out.

I agree with Chef De Cruisinart. I had mine out and got dry socket (ironically because I was too obsessive about trying to keep the scabs clean that I ripped them off) and couldn't anything less I would want to do than eat. Other than getting my loving wisdom teeth out again.

I had an infected crown yanked three hours ago and I'm sitting here eating bean soup. Some people get hugely sensitive when teeth are pulled, some don't. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I suppose it might make a difference if I'd had extractions in all quadrants, though.

That's the key. I only spent 24h away from solid food for my two extractions, which were just one-side. I probably could have gone to lukewarm bean soup pretty fast.

I had all 4 removed. It sucked. All the vicodin was pretty awesome though, doc gave me 60x 7.5mg refillable twice. My mouth did legitimately hurt for 2 weeks, and I got dry socket in one of them. I did everything perfectly right, called my dentist because the pain was INSANE, and they tell me even if I do everything right, there's still a good chance I'd get it, since I had 4 taken out.

tl;dr: I'd do it all again for dem druuuuugs

To counter everyone else in here, I got all four wisdom teeth out and it couldn't have been a more pleasant experience. I just ate tomato soup and applesauce for a couple days and like 3 or 4 days in I was fine to eat anything reasonable (nothing ridiculously tough or difficult to chew) as long as I was careful.

I didn't need pain pills after the first day and I got these sweet stitches that just dissolved in my mouth so I didn't even have a follow-up appointment. If you have a good dentist you're not going to have to worry about anything.

I hope I have the good experience. I've never had surgery before, so it will be my first time being knocked out. That's the part I'm looking forward to.

But surgery is Tuesday, and by Sunday I have to use my mouth enough to sing solo at church. So I suppose that whatever happens it has to work.

Pain drugs are good, though. I'll just make sure I get an extra handle or two of gin to wash down the vicodin.

Thanks for the food advice, ya'll. I'm stocked up on stock, so I suppose I can just heat that up for nutrition if I need to.

I had all four of mine removed a couple years ago. Out like a light then I instantly woke up lying in the recovery room. None of mine were impacted or otherwise complicated extractions and I didn't even have sutures. I ate jello and frozen treats for a few days and then slowly went back to normal food. The only eventful part was digging a bone shard out of my gums a couple weeks later :chef:

why do you all get your wisdom teeth out? are they like actively hurting you or causing a bite problem?

when I was a kid my dentist said I'd eventually have to get mine removed and I basically said gently caress you no :(

my teeth were pretty much great other than that, and every time I go in to the dentist it's been like 4 years and they are like 'whelp your teeth are fine, see you again in another 4 years'.

I'm afraid to ask about the wisdom teeth thing because this all sounds super unpleasant. my mouth ain't hurt, why fix what aint broken what im sayin' (I hope :( )

I got one out, 3 left (btw, I survived on mcDonalds strawberry milkshakes for four days)
Got it out as it got infected and my cheek blew up, that and it hurt like hell.

I also got the same talk from the dentist (before and after pulling the wisdom tooth),
but I never got myself to making an appointment when nothing was going on..

Now I'm 30 years older and I still carry around the other three, no problems.

It used to be common for dentists to advice to remove them if you had them,
but that turned out to be a load of bullcrap, they shouldn't be/aren't advising that anymore.
