Maxnmona, I was having a rough time on the night shift (like every night :qq:) and WTNV is some good news in my dreary world! At last, a reason not to kill myself!

Also, my coworker overheard the recipe for pulled pork in one ep and didn't feel like eating on our lunch break. :v:

When I first discovered WTNV in 2013, I was working a swing shift in a locked room by myself in a literal closet. My most significant romantic relationship ever has just ended and I was not in a good place. It helped a lot.

The DC show was fantastic. I loved every minute. I also have some pictures, some of which I took and some of which I stole.

First, Dessa treating audience seating as her stage. I was WTFing the whole time.

This is Dylan Marron's photo of the same event:

And this is my photo of him:

Apologies for the lousy pictures. I have shaky hands and the lights were very bright on stage.

I'm gonna try to make this. I did it with the last episode of TAH because there were some seriously obnoxiously long and loud laughs. I like to listen to WTNV and TAH as I'm falling asleep so that drives me nuts, especially when it's in reaction to something you needed to see. Anyway, unless there are objections, I'll put them up somewhere if they actually turn out non-poo poo.

edit: On an unrelated note, what does Dessa play at these shows? I doubt I'll ever make it to one, but I really fuckin' like Dessa.

I was there, and I still don't know if I figured out everything she played. Really quite distorted.

I can remember for certain that she played:
The Lamb
Call Off Your Ghosts
Dixon's Girl

EDIT: She may have also played Warsaw, but I am not certain about that. I don't specifically remember it. She confirmed that she performed Warsaw on Twitter when I asked.

and the weather was Skeleton Key

If anyone who was at the DC show on March 27 can identify other songs she played, that would be great

The Philly show was really great, I was in the second row AKA Dessa's front stage and it was unreal. She drank my friend's beer and I handed her a flask the guy next to me had. Dessa is wonderful. I bought the Parts of Speech vinyl and I've been spinning it since Thursday.

Also Dylan Marron complemented my bandana :kimchi: Everyone involved in this show is so incredibly wonderful and talented, and I'm so happy about it.

Also the script and idea behind their new live show is loving amazing. Good I love Night Vale.

So I went to the show in Chapel Hill last night and holy gently caress it was incredible as everyone has already expressed. I don\t have any good photos of it though because I got seats in a far back position, but Dessa did this thing where the balcony audience put their arms up and high-fived her with their shadows and it was pretty cool. Also she left a piece of chocolate up there.

Also the new episode is a really good deviation from the normal formula. And has a huge twist when Kevin shows up at the end. Who's ready for some more Strex Corp.?

Kevin says, "I think you'll be just... JAZZED about it." Clearly he's just inviting Cecil to the first performance of the Smilin' God Smooth Jazz Orchestra.

That was fantastic. I'm really enjoying the smaller, more personal story this year, for all that big things are happening in the background.

I think my favorite thing about the episode was Carlos' definition of science.

The audience slowly finding out the truth about Carlos and his "science" has been played really well, and hilariously. He's just as weird and in the dark as the rest of the town.

I generally think Carlos was a normal scientist when he came to Night Vale and has gradually adjusted to its weirdness. Then again, the University of What It Is doesn't exactly sound like an accredited institution.

Iirc Dylan Marron (Carlos' VA) has said in the past that he always thought of Carlos as being basically a Brazilian male model wearing glasses and a lab coat. :v:

As in, literally just a male model. Has not actually studied science. Calls himself a scientist without any formal training. Hence why his definition of science may be different from that of the audience.

Well, until his background is stated canonically, I'm sticking with my thoughts. Actually, "I don't know, but I'm trying to find out, okay?" is a pretty good definition of science.
