http://stlouis.craigslist.org/ptd/4951588706.html I hate it when my car gets totaled from an asteroid impact. I bought I a transmission from this guy years ago. Weird guy, he had a large collection of ford probes/mazda mx-6's in various states of disrepair in this below ground warehouse. I can't tell if he misspelled Astrovan, he's trying to be funny, or there was some sort of asteroid.

They take boost amazingly well, according to all reports By amazingly well I mean that little 73ci 3cyl that makes 73hp stock... makes 150hp on stock internals, safely, if the install is well done and tuned. In a car that is shorter than a 1967 beetle by 15 inches and shorter, narrower, and lighter than an NA miata, and 4WD. (I might be thinking about doing this to mine.)

If I had a garage to work on it in, I would be all over it. I get like 9 months of winter, so working on a car outside blows. Also, the ad was removed.

VideoTapir posted:How does the rest of the powertrain handle it, though? ECVT: don't even think about it, they're unreliable enough at stock power 5 speed: fine up to 150, allegedly. You need to upgrade the clutch. The EA63 1.4L uses the same clutch disc, so at least companies have something to refer to when making upgrade clutches, allegedly one is available for up to 200hp but I haven't seen it. 150 is probably about the most power I'd want anyways. It doesn't sound like much but in a car that came stock with 165 profile tires weighing under 2000lbs it is likely plenty. I'm just getting started on mine so that's all I really know.

http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/cto/4955791276.html The right year, seemingly good condition, not "GONNA BUILD ME A DRAG CAR LOLOLOL" hosed and not absurdly priced? Why couldn't this have been posted in another 6 months or so?

Having been in that quandary before, the solution is to think over your list of friends with money who need a car. Think of the one who is least likely to put any effort into modifying it, not afraid to ask you to help fix it, and most likely to get bored with it in 6 months. Convince them to buy it. I did this with my first comanche. Convinced a friend to buy it (he didn't take much convincing), I was the mechanic, he bought the parts, after 6 months he was bored with it and sold it to me for about what he had into it.

That's the beauty of older cars. they changed every year, so there's something for everybody. not like today's cars, where it's "you don't like it? wait 8 years"

All it takes is one oil-rich dude in TX to say "you know my pop used to take me to the ice cream parlor in his riviera" and buy it out of nostalgia. FWIW, the car does look really really nice. Probably not $40k nice, but still. I've seen worse.

Anyone want to do a V8 swap? If I didn't already have a 265 sitting in the garage, I'd probably pick this one up. It even comes with the best wheels and the diesel should give it the better front suspension than the four cylinder. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Volvo-240-DL-/251901381950 Man I love that front end, although having hood pins on a diesel Volvo is probably the best part.
