Nice car, though. 'Grats. Enjoy all 220 (230?) HP.

How does a turbo 2.0L only have 220 hp? Or am I just spoiled by always looking at Ford's FoST numbers?

It doesn't, those numbers are severely under rated. I believe the GTI is seeing 220 to 230 at the wheels, just like the ST. In fact the GTI tasks a tune even better due to the larger turbo unit. I'm an ST owner myself.

Yeah Volkswagen always seems to under rate their turbo cars quite a bit. The new 1.8l in the Jetta is generally dynoing over 160 to the wheels with an advertised 170 HP

Which is why the R being rated at 292 is hilarious :) Stage 1 APR is making almost 400hp. Mind if I ask how much you spent on that GTI? I was at the dealer a few weeks ago and the maxxed out GTI i was checking out just to get a sense of the car was friggin 32k. The R is only going to be 38 and that gets you almost an extra 100hp and AWD.

Fully maxing one gets a $34,850 sticker here in NC. $32,XXX Invoice.

Maxed R is $39k+, but they won't have a manual version until 2016, just the DSG. :(

There will also be a Civic hatch in the US so maybe we will get a Si hatch? The base engine is 1.5T so you might be able to get some good gains.

The MKV GTI was like that as well. Many people found their 200hp rated car doing exactly that, but to the wheels.

Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas?

I test drove a 2015 Focus ST, 2015 Mustang GT, 2015 Fiesta ST, 2012 BMW 328i, and a 2015 VW GTI this past weekend. None of their manual transmissions felt as good as my 2008 Civic Si. If the driving dynamics of the new Civic are good, I think I might hold out and see what happens for this new Civic.

That's not a surprise, at all. There's some very affordable upgrades for the STs that make them decent however.

Fully loaded 16 R is going to have an invoice of like 38.6k, I dont remember the exact numbers. I also discovered the 15 and 16 R don't get a sunroof :(

We won't. We never get anything fun in the US.

I also discovered that due to the haldex, the R has no spare tire.

The $40k the optioned out R costs is severely pushing it, you know that is going to cost at least $45k.

This is the first R news I've heard that I am ok with. I dislike sunroofs in general. Plus the little holed sheet pullout sunroof screen on the 2015 GTI is terrible. I wished it was possible to get a loaded one without it.

Thinking about it more as I was laying in bed last night, isn't the Golf R basically going to be a TT-RS? If so, I'd expect a ballpark of wherever that was priced. So yeah...

Yeah, now that the Lancer is dead they need something to push them. The WRX is great, but lacking a hatch and could be better, and the STI is sorely in need of a newer power plant, the EJ series is past due for replacement.

Some competition will hopefully get their attention, even if it's just against their halo cars.

The fact that AWD, and pretty good AWD at that, is standard on both VW and Ford's top end hatch backs should be a big warning for Subaru.

That's the feature I miss the most from my old Impreza and one of their biggest differentiators.

Interesting, but if it did manage to make it here, it's probably going to be another 10k on top of the Golf R price. 400hp out of a 4 cylinder just seems like it's asking for problems though. Which is why I likely will not mod the R at all. 300hp is plenty to get me in trouble already. Only reason I haven't had a ticket in the TDI is that I simply can't push it much harder than I already do.

I'd love an R Wagen though.

Like I said, it's basically a TT-RS right? So take whatever the price of that was and take maybe $5k off since it's a Golf. Then maybe add that back on for the unique body panels and stuff. I could easily see it in the $50-55k range.

They should definitely be concerned, but the WRX is the only non FWD in the hot-but-not-monstrous category, which still has some value.

Subaru need to figure out what the gently caress with the STi though.

Dude?
I took my injen intake off of the FiST because while it was noisier I didn't actually like the particular noise it made. I wanted the blow off sound and the air sucking sound but it created a weird resonance that wasn't pleasant. I replaced it with a k&n panel filter and now I get the turbo noise and the air sucking but no resonance. Overall the good sound is quieter than with the intake but louder than stock, and the bad sound is completely absent.

I also tightened all of the turbo hose clamps. They were all loose. Went from max boost 17psi to 21psi (measured with dashcommand on my phone with a Bluetooth ODBII dongle). Definitely had a leak somewhere on the line. A friend with another FiST came over and I took care of his clamps too, and he said he noticed a difference, but didn't measure anything. It seems like the loose clamps are an issue.

Definitely are. Quite a few of us that purchased the '14s found the clamps were loose straight off the lot. I'm kkind of surprised they didn't use better clamps or otherwise fix this for the 15s

The 14s also had a problem where there is nothing you can do to reset the 'max oil life' , so once it hits 0% it stays there. Did they fix this on 15s?

Was that the Fiesta only? I reset the max oil life on the Focus when I changed the oil and it worked just fine, and it's a 14.
