* Playing a CV is way more interesting than playing arty in WoT. It is also way more fun to defend against bombers than artillery shells. Its far above randomly exploding or losing half your health when someone gets lucky. * The fact that nearly everything is in a constant state of motion means interesting action starts much sooner. I don't feel the need to hide in a bush for half the game. * No shot "bouncing" means I don't need to memorize the armor values of every vehicle in the game. I think new players and casual players of WoT will appreciate those qualities.

The only issue I have with the commander training feature is that when you try to stick a captain into an empty ship, it lists the captains of your other ships first by default instead of any captains you would have in reserve. It's caused a dumb misclick mistake for me already and the cost to retrain is not cheap and somewhat walled by piasters.

They get increased speed and survivability, which is nice. Both are necessary to survive the improved AA of the higher-tier BBs and cruisers. The reduced damage is bullshit though. You can land all ten torpedo hits on a Nagato and not kill it, as I have learned from bitter experience.

Burt posted:So, does anyone think this game has the legs to keep running for a while when it's out of Beta? Same. I've stopped playing for now and I doubt I'll be coming back unless significant changes are made. I've posted about some of these points before, but basically the most important problem is that once you get above tier four or so there are basically only five ships in the game: destroyer, cruiser with torpedoes, cruiser without torpedoes, battleship, aircraft carrier. It doesn't matter which tier you're at or which nation you're playing, all these five play identically and there are extremely minor differences between tiers (barring one or two weird outliers like the Cleveland). This is because of a few simple points: - All ships in a class have basically the same speed, and even comparing between classes the fastest ship is only ~40% faster than the slowest one (25-35 knots for pretty much everything above tier 4-5 really - again one or two weird outliers, mostly destroyers) - compare to tanks where the fastest tank at any given tier is roughly two to three times as fast as the slowest one. - Gun stats other than range are mostly irrelevant because the only thing that really does significant damage outside of knife fighting range is citadel pens and you get those by staying at specific ranges and having lots of guns that fire fast so you can spin the RNG roulette more. - Armor currently doesn't really mean anything and there is only one useful ammo type (AP). In addition to this, there are some significant problems with the game that simply makes it pretty boring once you have it figured out: - Because the way the maps are designed and the aforementioned speed ranges, once you engage there's no real way to disengage an enemy who isn't interested in disengaging (except if you are a non-BB vs a BB), so almost all fights are victory or death. - The game modes and the maps are garbage. As a result, most games sorta end up being some kind of yakety sax circle around the map. - There is exactly one thing you actually do in the game, and that's leading targets. That's it. Positioning is a thing but given the Wargaming spotting mechanics paired with the need to plan five minutes ahead at all times, a lot of the time it feels like playing blind chess against fifteen opponents at the same time. - There is a definite cooperative aspect to the game with the different ship classes seeming to have been designed to complement each other, but the game modes and mechanics strongly discourage different classes sticking together. Cruisers for example naturally want to go somewhere where they can actually have fun, which means duel other cruisers and poo poo on destroyers - they do not want to sit around babysitting slowboating battleships where they can get sniped at by enemy battleships which they can't shoot back at. Zotix posted:Do you think a game like war thunder that should have realistic modeling for the ship's as opposed to a hp model like warships will have more interesting gameplay. The game is at its worst when single salvoes wreck your boats. If anything, damage should be reduced across the board. Actually, War Thunder gets away with a lot because you can respawn in arcade mode. I don't think Wargaming's engine can even support that, but it would make playing certain ship classes less frustrating. Addendum: Why the gently caress is the Fubuki speed limited to 35 knots? That's cruiser speed. Slim Jim Pickens fucked around with this message at 02:23 on Apr 5, 2015 |

Maybe this is anachronistic and arcadey, but maybe it'd help if there were aura bonuses for sticking together to represent radar sharing or something. Comedy option: In the same way that WoT had you manage a 5 person crew, let WoW have you manage 1,300 crew members, each with unique skill trees.

No idea. The Fubukis' historically managed 38kts. It's the later Asashio, Shiratsuyu, and Kagero classes that go about 35kts. I really hope they add the Le Fantasque-class destroyers. 45kt speed with 3 triple torpedo mounts would be amazing.

I think limiting carriers and BBs to 1-2 each per team with the rest being filled by cruisers and DDs would go a long way to make the game funner.

Zettace posted:I think limiting carriers and BBs to 1-2 each per team with the rest being filled by cruisers and DDs would go a long way to make the game funner. A better fix would be to remove the big range advantage on BB's and increase the speed/manuverability on cruisers. Maybe also create maps where it is not always obvious where the other teams ships will be - right now a high tier BB can just line up for his shots at long range because he knows the enemy will be in spot X.

The Pensacola is a bad ship, they say. Okay, she's not nearly as tough as the Cleveland. But those 8-inchers pack suprisingly much oomph and are a joy for long-range gunnery and she's pretty drat maneuverable for a heavy cruiser. Also, the stats on the stock guns are a lie - the stock turrets have a turn rate of 45(!) instead of 30 seconds. The upgraded guns get them up to their stated 30 seconds and make a huge difference. The gun is still amazing, but my existence on the battlefield seems to be getting weaker the long cb is going.

I mistook a New Orleans for a destroyer because it looked so small next to a Cleveland. JuffoWup posted:Welcome to the aoba? Aobas are very fine ships as long as you have a dumber ship ahead of you to take all the damage. It can't face a Cleveland on its own, but it sure can take 10,000 hp off one.
