I'm way behind on Drive to Work too, but it doesn't surprise me. It's the kind of mechanic that 'feels' Early Magic-y, like Ante was mentioned.

What was pwnage again? Something like taking an opponent's card and shuffling it into your deck? Maybe that works in the mid-90s but not anymore if for no other reason than sleeves. Count Bleck posted:I played Gamble recently and it discarded the card I fetched for: Krenko. I'm not bitter. I saw a Krenko dude do this two games in a row in an EDH tourney a while back, tutoring then pitching the card he needed to go infinite both times (Staff of Domination). Felt bad but I was in his pod for both games so sucks for you dawg.

I find Maro's voice too grating to listen to the podcast. I used to read the transcripts when there was like one a week but then he took it up to 11; I feel bad for the woman doing the transcripts now.

Trying to remember what Maro said, but in the "2008" podcast he said Richard showed up with a self-made deck with a new mechanic where you have cards in your deck that you can play to shuffle them into your opponents deck, essentially giving them a blank draw. So I screwed up: Garfield's mechanic is kind of like reverse pwnage.

Also sleeve color and all that. This is actually why I just turn cards affected by o-ring upside down instead of placing them on the opponent's side of the table. This is also a great example of the difference between games where each player brings their own materials and a shared, enclosed game like Dominion.

Madmarker posted:OH, I mean I understand logistically it would never work. But from a pure gameplay perspective it seems awesome to me. Still not really. Cursers is really powerful in Dominion because you're going to see the same curse at least 5 or 6 times over the course of the game and Dominion is a hugely dependent on critical mass, whether that's having $8 in your hand so you can buy a province when you're playing a Big Money style of deck or having enough synergistic actions in an action chain deck. In either case, having a curse in your hand instead of a useful card can make a huge difference. On the other hand, in Magic, you don't even see most of the cards in your deck, so most likely you won't see the garbage. It's basically reverse deck thinning. As an aside, iirc Booby Trap was originally supposed to shuffle into an opponent's deck and that was the first time that mechanic was nixed because logistics.

That and arguably the curse mechanic from Dominion wasn't fun to begin with. I've played the game a few times and while I was never a huge fan, things got even worse when it came to curses. It's a pretty obnoxious way to interact with others.

Like shuffling in 6 cards or so as the equivalent of 1 curse, or placing the card certain number of cards from the top (in a format with no easy shuffling). Again, I can easily see why it wasn't implemented, but if the logistical hurdles were handled, I would be interested in seeing what a balanced form of this mechanic would look like.

Given how loving low the bar is to not being a creeplord I'm continuously disappointed that so many magic players sidle under it. My Round 2 pairing last FNM was a woman. I managed to complete a three game set without leering at her tits, asking inappropriate questions or patronizing her on game knowledge. Should I be teaching classes or do I just get a medal?

Maybe women are just generally not interested in playing a high-stakes, heavily analytical, difficult to master, expensive, time-consuming, ultracompetitive game? If women want to play, they will, and if they don't, they won't. quote:... And women can be guilty of things too (not that this excuses men for being guilty).
