NZHerald saying it could be replaced with a daily Jono & Ben show. It's like they're challenging Seven Sharp to see who can make the lightest current affairs show possible.

He was a regular at a deli in Ponsonby where a friend worked and honestly he was the most effusive and lovely person I've ever heard. I stood behind him in the Rage Against the Machine moshpit at BDO years ago, same thing. Every 5 mins someone would come and ask for a photo or autograph and he was amazing about it. The man is an actual national treasure. voiceless anal fricative fucked around with this message at 06:19 on Apr 9, 2015 |

Ivor Biggun posted:Newsboy should get a current affairs show Eating Media Lunch was a current affairs show, pretty much. and it was amazing. It was the best when he managed to convince Angela Dewhassherface to go to press conferences and use her BBC anchor cred to get to the front and then ask questions as "Angela: Eating Media Lunch". They should revive it and bring back Unauthorised History of NZ. (Also while I'm cheering for Graeme Hill poo poo, I really wish Radio Live would give his midday timeslot back to him. :/)

Paul Henry show ratings doubled the previous year's Nightline ratings on some nights, and on all other nights year on year ratings movement for the show was better than the station average. Point #3 disproved. Point #2 is absolutely correct lmao he didn't do well there, but to say that he failed at his NZ TV gigs is incorrect.

Well he failed on TVNZ by being an irredeemable bigot, not for poor ratings, I was unclear there. He wasn't much better than Nightline once the ~controversy~ factor wore off. quote:The numbers provided by Nielsen Television Audience Measurement show that indeed, The Paul Henry Show has delivered a 5+ average audience that is slightly higher than Nightline did in 2013 with 119,100 viewers (2.9%) per episode in 2014 compared to 110,000 (2.7%)last year.

Exclamation Marx posted:Well he failed on TVNZ by being an irredeemable bigot, not for poor ratings, I was unclear there. Yep but you also forget that PUTs were down ridiculously year on year, all stations performed down year on year and the Paul Henry show was one of the few shows to outperform market declines. Also you're the one who framed it to be about ratings by saying that Exclamation Marx posted:... so don't try and reframe your argument when you're shown to be wrong. If being a irredeemable bigot means you get labelled a failure then TVNZ must hate having a massive failure making GBS threads out 6-7 ratings every weeknight for them at 7pm.

The failure was gettiing fired [for being a bigot]. My original point was that having success as a showrunner can be secondary to other things, like opinionated management. Sorry if wrongly referring to ratings confused you, I guess. The 10:30 PHS can't be called successful by any definition.

Except I've told you why it was successful (didn't drop badly year on year while everything else was in freefall). You have no idea what you're talking about dude.

rebrand Campbell Live to Janika Live, watch ratings explode
|
# ? Apr 9, 2015 11:25 |
Mediaworks bought Henry as a real competitor against One, which he wasn't as a late night host (and likely won't longterm as a breakfast host). Barely managing to buck the declining trend for a few months as a novelty vs the 20-year old Tonight in no way achieves that.
