Traveling to Iowa must loving suck. Like it's cold and lovely and it's some crappy Midwestern state that doesn't even matter in the general. That's why Florida should move its primary to the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, and both parties should agree to it. It could be like Spring Training. The candidates and media would get to travel around relatively pleasant areas (imagine Chris Christie in a bathing suit on Miami Beach). Iowa would stop mattering at all. Also, Florida is relatively purple and isn't a stupid empty state full of corn and no electoral votes.

Florida is actually being sensible this time around. The last two cycles it's tried to jump into the early primary game and be one of the states coming right after the first four. It's received early debates as its reward and delegate penalties as it's punishment. In 2016 the state will be in compliance with both parties and hold its primary on March 15. This will be two weeks after 2016's "Super Tuesday" (March 1), which right now has Colorado, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Virginia.

Reading the wiki article about her, and its hilariously understated. quote:Fiorina presented herself as a realist regarding the effects of globalization. She has been a strong proponent, along with other technology executives, of the expansion of the H-1B visa program.[42] In January 2004, at a meeting to "head off rising protectionist sentiment in Congress," Fiorina said: "There is no job that is America's God-given right anymore. We have to compete for jobs as a nation."[43][44][45] While Fiorina argued that the only way to "protect U.S. high-tech jobs over the long haul was to become more competitive [in the United States]," her comments prompted "strong reactions" from some technology workers who argued that lower wages outside the United States encouraged the offshoring of American jobs.[46] Fiorina responded against protectionism in an editorial in the Wall Street Journal, writing that while "America is the most innovative country," it would not remain so if the country were to "run away from the reality of the global economy."[47] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carly_Fiorina#Hewlett-Packard

MC Nietzche posted:Can you elaborate? I'm not seeing it. Mooyashi partially answered this, but I think the answer's more high-level than his analysis. Florida can't be before Super Tuesday or they risk losing delegates. If they're on Super Tuesday, they're competing with a bunch of other states for attention. Two weeks after Super Tuesday, however, there will be a winnowed field with eyes on Florida....

Actually, the delegate rules are why it's exactly March 15. The GOP allows all states that hold their primaries on March 15 or later to apportion their delegates on a winner-takes-all basis rather than a way that is proportional to how many votes they get. This way, they ensure a Florida-based candidate (i.e. Jeb) gets the maximum delegate allocation. March 15 is the exact earliest day it can be held without having to use proportional allocation.
