It doesn't look like Samsung has done much with Touchwiz besides stop calling it Touchwiz, so the regular complaints about it will continue with the S6. I used to be in the "touchwiz ain't so bad guys!" camp but after several months with the N6 I find myself not even being able to consider an HTC or LG phone, let alone another Samsung. Always behind the goon trends. Or maybe ahead, I'm not sure anymore.

Then theres all the lovely verizon apps you can't get rid of. Touchwiz is a mess. I thought I could get used to it but I can't. That dialer is crap, and all the replacements i've tried are crap. Then there is the issue with the dialer not sending out dtmf tones.I will dial my voicemail and the buttons won't work. Well the work the first 10 seconds but if you need to press buttons to transfer to an extension the won't work. I've tried a few dialers and they are acting the same. I'm guessing my battery only lasting 4 hours on T-Mobile is because the native chipset is optomised for Verizon towers? I haven't had any problems with mine, though I use the nexus launcher and stock Google apps. vv

So is it just me or does Android like to just go ahead and update apps without permission? Occasionally I'll get updates for apps that I don't like or don't want to bother wasting my time with so I ignore them. Then after a few days another app will need an update, and I'll notice that the ones I ignored are still there, so I update what I want to update and continue to ignore the others. But then after a while it seems the apps I ignored are showing as "up to date" even though I never actively updated them. What's the deal there, and why does Google bother to even ask me about these if they're just going to get updated anyhow? As for the reason why I don't update, they're usually stupid Verizon/other pre-loaded apps that I don't give two shits about but can't delete. Or they're apps that coast along gaining popularity and then sell out and pile on ads in an update.

My N5 battery drain is infuriating. Whenever the phone is off WiFi it just tanks, I have to carry a battery pack around with me because it'll be dead after 5-6 hours. Doesn't matter how good the signal is and BetterBatteryStats doesn't give me any useful details. But sat on WiFi it 's perfect, I leave it overnight and it'll lose like 1% an hour. How can this be a thing?

So I've got two questions that might figure into which way I lean on a new phone. First, I installed Google Now Launcher on my HTC One M7 and it by outward appearances it replaced HTC's interface with something that looks and acts more like stock android. Does that work on every phone? If I got an S6 and installed that would it be a similar user experience to my current M7? What's the over/under on HTC updating the M8 for the next 24 months? Considering performance is basically equal to the M9 the only reason to not consider the M8 for free on contract vs $200 for the M9 is whether or not I'll actually be able to get updates past around mid 2016. Given the way Android has been going I wonder how much it'll matter if I don't. I cracked the screen on my M7 a while ago, otherwise I'd just keep using it and try to hold out for the M10 and S7, maybe I still can, but between the cracked display and lack of Sprint Spark support I would like to get something else.

You'd have the stock launcher basically on the S6 but Touchwiz runs pretty deep on the S6. It's not terrible and better than before but you should fiddle with one in a store and see what you think.

As I understand it, there are different versions of handsets, or at the very least different versions of the OSes for different carriers. I bought my Note 3 (currently on 4.4.2) on ebay and it has a T-Mobile splash screen but mentions O2 in the device name. How do I know which carrier it was originally from? And does this matter when upgrading?

Can't find a more appropriate thread. I broke the last MicroUSB charger I have at work and need to buy 1 or more new ones. I've got a 2nd Gen Moto X and trying to get a straight answer out of Motorola about which chargers other than this official one are going to be viable has not worked well (just getting the maximum input amperage number has failed miserably). I assume I actually want ones with this Quick Charge 2.0 stuff in it. Can anyone recommend somewhere to get reliable applicable chargers that aren't $35/each.

Though the choice between the edge and the regular is difficult they're both equally nice looking whole the Edge is sleeker and looks almost smaller in size.

Unlocked S6 (regular) is already on eBay's daily deals front page. $699/32gig. Too expensive...will be cheap soon. Curious what truck these fell off of. Carriers don't even have them yet (save for T-Mobile). Will Swappa a 64gig edge in a few weeks for like $499, lol.

nerve posted:What is impressing you guys about the S6? This thread is making it sound amazing but never really says why other than liking how it looks and feels which are both subjective. Well, seems like it's a Galaxy S5 with nicer looks and materials (though glass back is pretty meh to me), toned down Touchwiz, fantastic camera, and decent battery. Also doesn't seem particularly revolutionary to me, but it is more appealing than the S5 or S4 were.

You make it sound like it being subjective somehow doesn't mean anything which is dumb and I feel like you're probably trolling here. I mean there's dozens of reviews out there explaining why it is a good phone. Anyway, putting aside its looks, and if what people are saying about it is accurate, the S6 is (or will be) a widely available phone that is fast, has a great camera, has minimally invasive UI additions, and is from a manufacturer who has been doing a decent job of getting updates out. Off the top of my head, I can't think of another Android phone that has ever done all of that. I mean, yes, Samsung's cargo-culting off of Apple is stupid, but I don't really care about that if they managed to put out a good device.

You can find used S5s now for under $300, I sold my mint S5 for $440 3 months after release. nerve posted:What is impressing you guys about the S6? This thread is making it sound amazing but never really says why other than liking how it looks and feels which are both subjective. Basically, it's the phone to beat right now. Samsung really focused on making a good looking device that wasn't plastic and it looks to be catching a lot more attention than the past two iterations. The M9 is losing a lot of steam and the G4 isn't well known at this point. So as it sits, this phone is rightfully the one to get right now if you don't mind a (toned down) Touchwiz or a smaller screen. The Nexus 6 and Droid Turbo are still up there too if you want a larger screen, and then of course the Xperia phones are solid.

Every year they say they've improved Touchwiz, and they really do a bit, but it's not significantly different than last gen. The upgrade to Lollipop from KitKat is a bigger improvement. It's a perfectly usable UI, just an unnecessary and universally negative change to a UI that looks and works better stock.

Is the battery life on the S6 as middling as the reviews suggest? That's a dealbreaker for me as I'd buy a freakin' flip phone at this point if it'd last for 2 days straight on idle. To me it's still looking like the Z3 is the one to beat for battery life.

I've still got a Moto X 2014 (Which is probably the closest thing to a Nexus 5-2) $140 off code making a 16 Gig $360 or 32 Gig $410 I believe which is basically the N5 pricing. Also they are giving away a free Moto Hint with off contract purchase ($150 value) and I got upgraded to leather for free. You might be able to get a Moto X 2014 Pure Edition + Leather/Wood upgrade + Moto Hint for $360 that's a hell of a deal. Anyone who wants the code please PM me it's good till 4/16.
