Works perfectly. Came with the cables to play it on the tv as well as the power adapter for home and a car adapter as well Pretty psyched about this find, I never run across things like the Nomad where I live. The Genesis Multitap was awesome to see in there as well, now for some 4 player Mega Bomberman :black101:

Woo! It's finally here!

Now, what game to play first?

Well, that's predictable.

So, quick impressions since a lot of people here don't have one. It really does feel like a slightly enhanced Gameboy. There's no headphone jack and only three volume settings: high, low, and off. It took me forever to find the contrast adjust because it's not very visible and I thought it was a volume control at first. The screen is worse than I was expecting, you really will need to play it in some bright light.

I really like the form factor of it. The WonderSwan is tiny, but comfortable to grip even with my giant hands. The controls are a bit mushy but I think they work as a control pad that way. The self-contained battery compartment is a pretty cool idea; you won't lose that drawer.

Right now it's between this and the PS1 for the cheapest system to import from Japan. Mine cost $25 including shipping and came with Densha de Go which I would have bought anyway. WonderSwan Colors seem to start at about $35 and I kind of wish I had gone that route and picked up the game separately, but :retrogames:. The big problem is that the action games seem to have some pretty sharp price tags.

I'm sure everyone wants to know how this game holds up in this tiny form factor. It looks a lot like the 8-bit version of Super Scalar games with the buildings at the edge of the view moving in a real herky-jerky way. Taito didn't use a lot of strong contrasts in the visuals which makes everything hard to make out even when you turn the contrast way up.

This is a full port of the first Densha de Go game and getting that into a black and white portable console is a pretty good trick. Without playing the whole thing, it looks to me like all the lines from the arcade game are fully present. Of course, the first Densha de Go was also the toughest to play; it is super difficult and your brakes are not very effective. There's no signs along the track, you have to spot them at the bottom of the window.

My feeling is that this is for completists only. If you want portable Densha de Go, the Pocket line on the PSP is the most playable though they are really limited in content. The DS version is also pretty good. The WonderSwan version is just going to wind up being a novelty in my DdG collection.

But I still have to get Densha de Go 2 for the system. :negative:

I forgot to mention, this game shows off the limitations of the sound system on the WonderSwan. Honking the horn cuts out all of the other game audio to play a fixed length digital horn sample.

You made the same mistake I did and got an original Wonderswan. You should really try and get a Swan Crystal, the screen is so much better

Ha, no but I actually have my original copy that I got brand new when I was a kid. That was such a stupid thing to add to a game.

http://www.nintendorepairhut.com/accessories/nintendonesaccessories.html

Scroll down to the "ENIO EXP" accessory. I bought it for my US toaster and I get the expanded audio from the Everdrive N8 and the 60 pin to 72 pin adapter when using real Famicom carts with expanded audio. The price is so ridiculously reasonable that it's not really worth it to even use up your time opening up the NES to mod it. Bonus points is using the expansion port on the NES (impresses your friends) and you can use Famicom accessories on the NES as well. Sorry I didn't get to reply to you before you did the mod. :(

If you have an NES model 2 you can completely ignore my wall of text. :D

Ah, that's cool. If I keep collecting Famicom stuff I might have to get it just so I can use accessories. Actual Famicoms are more expensive than I'd like. (Well, at least from some cursory searches I did from sellers with English listings. Japanese sellers might be more reasonable)

I had some fun figuring out how to do the mod, though. I did a "non-standard" version where I passed the Famicom cart audio to EXP3 for convenience because they were directly across from each other inside my converter, and then jumpered EXP3 to Audio In internally in my NES. I used a 100k resistor because my searches determined that something in that range was good for original Famicom stuff (It's true, it sounds great). What's cool is that if I get an Everdrive N8 I can just add a 47k resistor between EXP6 and Audio In and it will work too because the mods will be mutually exclusive.

He probably did it on purpose because he thought it would be funny and perhaps never discovered. There are a few other games I've seen on that wiki that have mundane random stuff used as filler to pad out the ROM because apparently 0xff is too pedestrian for some people.

Cyber Cycles

Red Earth/Warzaid

Planet Harriers
Sega Super GT/Scud Race
Rave Racer
World Rally

I'm probably forgetting a bunch but this is what comes to the top of my head. Whenever they bring out an arcade game to home consoles, like Afterburner Climax or Tank! Tank! Tank! I always try to buy it to support that sort of thing

Radikal Bikers did get a PS1 release, but apparently only in Europe.

That's a good list, though. I try to do the same thing, too. PS3 has been pretty great for that, although I missed JoJo when it was up (still have it on DC at least.) Still need to pick up Daytona USA and maybe Sega Rally.

There are also quite a few Neo Geo releases on Wii that I want to get but can never make a decision on. Last Blade 2, Ironclad ... uh, and other ones that aren't on the PS2 or Wii collections.

I want a loving Bubble Bobble mega collection, dammit. Bubble Bobble Part 2, Parasol Stars, and Bubble Memories need wider availability. I imported the Game Boy version of Parasol Stars just to have SOME version of it at a reasonable price.

Wow, Last Blade 2 looks gorgeous. Is it as good on a Wii? I love 2D pixel graphics/art but I can't afford a Neo Geo, but on the other hand, I do have a Wii I'm not using much these days. Does it pale in comparison to the original on the Virtual console?

That Last Blade 2 VC thingy is pretty accurate and the only legal way of playing the game properly outside the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast version, similary to Garou MOTW, was programmed in a rather shoddy manner and will murder your system's laser.

I wish they would bring all the NeoGeo and TG16 stuff from the Wii to the U. As basic as the account system is on the U I'd prefer that over nothing on the Wii and loving Wii points.

It is my fighting game fanatic brother's favorite game for the NeoGeo. I don't have any direct experience with the VC version, but NG games work just fine on the Wii so I see no reason why that should be an exception. Just be sure to have a pro controller or a fight stick for it.

So I've been a little behind because of work, catching up on the thread.

I can't get that Sound Factory/Fantasy dump to work. I know it's got to be through the mouse, but my emulator is apparently ignoring the fact that I've got it set to mouse? Maybe I need a new emulator.

Speaking of emulators, one of my favorite obscure racing games is one that is apparently an absolute bastard to get to work correctly on MAME (or I may just suck at emulating, probably this)

There's also Mad Gear, which is another arcade title, kinda like Bump 'n' Jump on steroids.

Haven't been gaming a huge amount lately, but did recently pick up Breakthru, Solar Jetman and Burai Fighter for NES, all of which I'm bad at to varying degrees.

Went with some friends earlier today as well. A large tent with lots of vendors selling things, and several rooms with pinball and arcade games set to free play.

I only took a few pictures, so here they are.
