Hi! Can you share a bit about how you encouraged such friendliness in your chickens? I've got new babies and we are loving on them but I'm not sure if it's helping or annoying them? Advice?

Great question :) baby chickens will make it pretty clear if you’re annoying them so as long as they aren’t constantly freaking out when you’re applying the loves then they’re cool with you.
My socialization techniques are pretty basic - because I think baby chickens are pretty much the best thing ever, I spend a lot of time just holding them, letting them take naps on me, talking to them … I mean, once they recognize you as a source of warmth and food, you’re pretty much set. Behold my socialized leg warmers from last year:

I am 32 and I am still completely ga-ga about dinosaurs. It's amazing that they existed and the evolution that made them exist is fabulously mind blowing.

This and the fact that several ancestors of dinosaurs still exist is amazing to me. Think about alligators and crocodiles - outside of their size, they really haven't changed much in the last few million years. Add that scientists are still finding new species of animals all over, and even some long-thought extinct species are still around (see the Coelacanth), and it's pretty drat awesome to realize that we're still learning and exploring our own planet and haven't yet found everything that we possibly could.

Also, fatbird dinosaurs are the best concept ever :3: just imagine the sound they'd make at that size trying to imitate someone like a parrot

Okay, this confused me, so I looked into it. I can't find anything that says the actual petting of the cubs is bad for any reason other than "it teaches people that big cats should be pets when they shouldn't." Am I missing something? I imagine the petting exhibits are unethical and probably mistreat the animals in other ways, but "cub petting is extremely cruel" like they say on that site seems like a bit of an overreaction to the actual act of petting the things.

They're separated from their mothers, they tend to be mistreated by their handlers, big cat cubs do not want to be kept in enclosed spaces and touched by large numbers of strangers, and in the long run they tend to be killed when they reach adulthood.

Edit: sorry for the bum out.

It also compromises the cubs' immune system (being around all those people constantly touching them).

Also spreads disease to humans and constantly disrupts the cubs' sleep, which they need just like human babies do, and when they're not on display they're being carted around on trucks. There's probably more reasons too.

I'm far from an expert, but if you weren't even allowed to touch him, that's pretty good. The problem with cub petting as I understand it is (like people have posted) that people constantly touching them and waking them up, and the separation.

The tumblr I linked is good at answering questions, so if you're curious you can shoot them one and see what they think. :)
