My Air 2 bent slightly in my backpack. Glad I got this thing from Costco. Need to get a sturdier case this time, I guess.

It must have been resting against something awkwardly, it's usually right up against my rMBP in the laptop pouch.

Trying to back up my iPad before I exchange it. Can you really not change the backup location from within iTunes?

Is there any way when dragging pre-existing calendar events around in Week view to not have it snap to the nearest 15 minutes and instead stick to the same time but on the different day you're moving it to? I'm planning out my timetable for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and since most shows are on every day, I added them all to the first day and want to be able to quick drag and drop shows around in the Calendar app to work out the best way to see all the shows I want. I could go in and one at a time change the day on a show when I want to move it, but it's much more convenient to be able to just drag and drop it around. The other option is to just go onto a PC and use Google Calendar since it works the way I want it to, but it'd be very handy to be able to do it on my iPad.

Safari's performance is much improved on 8.3 on my Air 2, specifically when browsing the forums. On 8.2 it would only load the part of the page immediately visible on the screen, while 8.3 loads the whole page and you can smoothly scroll throughout the page. That behavior seemed like a regression with 8.2, so it's a nice fix.

Just bought a mini 2 to replace my aging iPad 3. Gonna be so glad to finally be rid of the 30 pin connectors.

I like 30 pin cos the cables aren't flimsy as poo poo like Lightning

I got one of those 30 pin to lightning convertors for like €2 and just use the old 30 pins I have for charging. I might get an Amazon Lightning for sync but I really only sync stuff over wifi these days.

I had an issue recently where the lightning port collected dust and lint which then got compacted every time I plugged it in, until eventually the cord couldn't make a full connection and would fall out at the slightest movement.

Just had to do my first DR recovery of an iOS device. not a bad run considering I have owned iphones since the 3G. iPad Air just straight up wouldnt unlock with the swipe motion, so I had to swipe up to camera and then home button. after that it was getting quite warm and battery was depleting pretty rapidly (1-2% every 2-3min) so I rebooted it and it wouldnt get past the Apple logo. had to go into restore mode and wipe and restore from cloud backup. Holy gently caress was it incredibly painless. wall paper, icon layout, even the correct versions of app store apps (holding off on updating VLC player due to the AC-3 codec being removed.) why isnt every backup service this painless?

How do I prevent phone calls from being forwarded to my iPad? When someone calls my iPhone, my iPad is ringing as well. However, I'm not logged into neither FaceTime nor Messages. When I open those apps, iOS prompt me to log in - which I haven't. How can phone calls (and some messages) still end up on my iPad?

I'll have to see if I can get any junk out of there later when I get home. Much appreciated.

If you have a compressor with a narrow nozzle, don't let the psi get too high or you could damage the port. About 50-80 psi should do it in short blasts.

You'll know it's done when the lighting cable sits flush when you plug it in.

I scraped the inside with a toothpick first, pulled out a surprising amount of lint with that, and then blasted the inside with some canned air. Cable fits great and is sitting sturdy. Cheers!

I just bought a iPad mini 2 and I'm looking for a case that can handle a lot of travel. I'm going to be using it to study on my hour long train ride each way and stay in a padded backpack compartment when it's not in use. I've never used a screen protector for my phone and never had a scratch so I'm hoping that's still the case with the iPad.

The apple leather case is really good, that's what I use and I don't have any scratches on my mini 2. I've dropped it a couple of times because I use it while teaching and once it popped out of the leather case but there was no damage. Otherwise I carry it in a lovely unpadded messenger bag and generally neglect its wellbeing.

Has anyone here upgraded form the original iPad Air to the Air 2? Was it worth it in your opinion? One of my main reasons for considering upgrading is because I'm basically out of space on my 16GB air, I'm also tired of pages loading while scrolling (these forums are the main culprit). Are most of the issues with the iPad Air ironed out with the increased RAM/CPU performance of the Air 2? Tab reloads, lovely page scrolling issues, etc.?

Except the benefits of Air to Air 2 isn't the primary reason he's upgrading because he ran out of space and is looking for additional reasons to help justify the purchase. If he's lived with it for a while personally I'd see if I could make it to the next iPad refresh, but I would totally understand upgrading now to be able to get more stuff on the iPad. Awful App isn't a bad idea since it's a bit of a resource hog than Safari (I think).

I'm not so sure this is the best place for this question, but here goes. My fiancee has an original iPad mini, which from what I can remember, has the same guts inside as an old iPad 2. She uses it to help teach her students with special needs (which there are a whole bunch of apps for kids with autism, holy cow), but after so many new iOS updates, she feels like it is a super-slow piece of garbage. And, it kind of is. I wouldn't use it. I wanna say I've used Xcode to roll back iOS on old iPod touches in college, but this was before everything changed with iOS 7. If it is possible to go back to an older OS, would it be worth it? She really does want a heavily-padded device for her students to play with simple education software, but the kids toss her device to the side when it takes many seconds for a simple keyboard to load. How many of her applications would (most likely) not work without the newest OS?

Not gonna work. You can get a refurbed iPad Mini 2 for $250 which is a hell of a deal. The 2 has the same specs as the 3. The only difference is the lack of TouchID.

I would try to jailbreak it. I don't know anything about how, but you don't have much to lose.

If the device is on 8.3, jail breaking isn't an option. Also even if it were I don't think you'd be able to roll back the OS like that.

Right - it's not possible to downgrade a device to a firmware once Apple decides you shouldn't be allowed to, and there isn't a way around it for any kind of recent device. (I think the last freely downgradable device was the iPhone 4?)
